2002 G500 stereo upgrade help

Has anyone replaced the stock Comand head unit in their G500. I cannot seem to locate an adaptor for the steering wheel and I am unsure what effect removing the head unit will have on the instrument display.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I haven't had experience with the audio system in an older G but I just had a Pioneer touch screen head unit installed in my MY 2002 C 230. I replaced the analog AM/FM radio. I now have bluetooth, Sirius radio, hands free phone capability and Apple Car Play. I have retained the full use of the steering wheel controls with no effect on the instrument display. I had it done by a professional installer at a reasonable price. I'm sure the same technology would apply to your 2002 G. The head unit fits so perfectly that it looks like it came from the factory. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project.

Looking for an R129
My guy at Best Buy did it for mine (2004) last week. I had a Pioneer AVIC-W8500NEX and the steering wheel controls didn't function. However, because I wanted a knob for volume instead of the little chiclet size keys, I 'downgraded' to a Sony Model AX1000 (both are Car Play touch screen units) and subsequently had the Pioneer installed in my son-in-law's car along with the JL amp and subwoofer (I'm plenty happy with the 4X55W driving the speakers in the G500). Anyway, long story shortened, he ordered some module and got the steering wheel controls working like they did with Command and I am really happy. Bottom line? Persist because it can be done. Anyway, I just spoke with Gary at my local BB and he said for your 2002 you need a PAC ControlPRO2 model number SWi-CP2 and it costs $70. Mine needed something different. Cost more.

I used this: https://www.belsee.com/belsee-afterm...lass-w463.html

in my old G500.

It was a simple plug and play design that worked flawlessly with wheel controls. The interface is clean, it is relatively simple to use, and best of all it looks like it could have come from the factory. The only drawback is the relatively small (6.2") screen.

For my 2004, it was an Axxess ASWC-1

Sorry to revive an old thread, but as I have time on my hands to plot out my upcoming 2005 G55 search / purchase and subsequent build I wanted to know if you had any pics on this install?

I just came across the same unit, as I feel I will immediately want to give the tech inside the g55 a bit of a modern touch.

Any pics and review of the system would be great.

Thanks
Ian

G500
Hi,
I did install the same unit on my 2005 G500 2 weeks ago. It was all plug an play including the volume on the steering wheel! I had some issues getting the actual radio to work, but did once I update the software! Try to communicate with the seller via mail, was quite a challenge and not to successful! I had do buy the adapter (Mercedes part number 0005453384) to bypass the bus system! Everything is working incl CarPlay!

Awesome!

Thanks for the part number, adding to my list of upgrades once I find the right G55.

On this unit is it plug and play with the stock microphone?
