Allocation

Hey Guys!

So I placed an deposit back in Feb 2018 for a new G63 in a dealership in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I've been constantly checking up on it, and just called my SA today. He's informed me we are in the same situation as before, and theres no clear date of an allocation. I honestly believe this is total bullcrap, as many other that I know have gotten their Gs. Should I pull out and go with another dealer or wait it out? What do you guys think?

Be honest with you with 18 months of deposit and no updates in the order bank, I’d just walk away from this particular dealership.

I ordered mine March 2018 and took delivery October 2018..... So your dealer does not seem to be great unfortunately.

Time to move on I'm afraid. Good luck in your search.

That's awesome. In Dallas no one has an allocation that hasn't been spoken for. The waitlists here are long.

I can appreciate that the waiting lists are long now. It's the same in Sweden. However, what surprised me was that the OP placed an order before the order book was open more or less and still has not seen a car.

I had given my dealer a heads-up that I wanted to buy a G500 and so he let me know the first date orders was possible to put in. Sometime mid march 2018. I went there in the morning and we did a rough build and then he had to send that immediately to Mercedes HQ Sweden for confirmation. There was 21 G´s ordered in Sweden that day and the process was different than for any other Mercedes. I could have gotten my car in July already but I wanted the Exclusive Interior Plus option so that pushed it past September and into October.

Again, OPs dealer seems useless. Unfortunately.

It is impossible to get the G63 even G550 in Toronto, Canada, the MB management team is restricted the buyer who allows to buy the G wagon even who paid the deposit. They are afraid of re-sell or re-export. If you don’t have a good relationship or history then you are just waiting and waiting. May be you could get it after 2-3 years after you paid the deposit.

I believe there's two issues making allocation even worse:

1. Unlike other models, MBUSA is penalizing dealers for selling their allocation outside of their catchment area (250 mile radius?). So, if they "distance sell" a car (typically for a huge markup), they won't necessarily get that sale recognized for future allocation - so end up worse off longer term.
2. MBUSA is punishing dealers financially if cars they sell are exported.

So, net net, dealers are only taking people seriously who are a) guaranteed local and b) not seeming like an exporter.

If you live in a hot market area, this has the effect of making it nearly impossible to get one of these cars sadly.

Sounds about right. Dealers also prefer people who will finance with MB USA instead of pay cash outright because that's a huge red flag for straw buyers and exporting.

I am also in Toronto and waited 3 years for mine, which just arrived this week. Mind you, I didn’t have to pay a deposit, but I’m a repeat customer of this particular dealer. Pulling out now won’t help - it’s a 2-3 year wait anywhere in Canada.

You mean and get raped by paying $30K or more over just? At least in Canada the dealers have more ethics and won’t charge over list.

I didn't know they (dealers) were charging so much. What a bunch of tools! Wonder if they ever considered a better business or job for themselves......I'd have a problem laying my head down at night if I made my money that way.
