G63 Canada Order Process
Hello everybody, I recently visited my local MB dealer to ask about the 2020 G63. I went in the dealer and sat down with a saleswomen.
She explained it like this, deposit of $5000, wait time would be ~2 years, the spec I wanted came down to $192,563 with reg, delivery, license etc (not including tax) Upon delivery I'd have to pay another $50,000 security deposit that would be returned to me 6 months later ONLY if I still own the car (she said it was so I don't export the car)
I obviously didn't want to wait that long so I asked if I can do anything to speed up the process.
At this point she asked if i was OK with the paying a $50,000 security deposit upon delivery. I said yes I'm good with it.
She then went to ask her manager. She then came back saying if I can pay the $50,000 SD, she can bump/kick some of the other allocations for me.
Is this normal, should I trust this dealer.

It could be called something else but basically they hold the $50,000 for 6 months because they don't want it to be exported and when time is up I have prove the ownership is still mine and then I would get it back.

I ordered my G550 in Canada. I paid no deposit and certainly no security deposit! I waited 3 years but it arrived and I paid MSRP, with nothing else on top.
You need to have a relationship with the dealer. You can’t walk off the street and expect to get one, their wait list is too long and full of repeat MB customers.

To curb exports, many canadian dealers are asking for this deposit especially if its a walk in or customer that has no records or relationships from previous purchase.
canadian dealers have no ability to put on market adjustments, and with the exchange, its a lucrative business to export.
if they don’t see you as a risk, and have a history either the dealer group, there’s no such ask at all. Didn’t have to pay a penny over for my g63.
