2003 G500 Vibration/Shudder on acceleration... propeller shaft!
I recently bought a 2003 G500 with 198000 miles. Drove it 1200 miles home and as I got home, the car would shudder on acceleration and there was a clunk when shifting into gear.
I replaced the tie rod bar assembly (from steering box to passenger side steering knuckle. I replaced the drag link (left to right steering knuckle connection) and the steering shock.
I took the car into the dealer for an alignment and it drives super straight and steers perfectly.
However, upon further diagnosing of the clunk and shuddering/vibration, I saw the that the propeller shaft boot was torn and there was lateral play in the prop shaft (between transmission and transfercase).
Below are pictures. I removed the car with the G on the ground and it wasn't that hard to do. Power tools would have made it much easier. It took a little bit of work to wiggle it out.
I am looking for a replacement or seeing if a local shop can rebuild it...
Here are pictures of the facelift I did!
I changed out the diff/transfer case fluids, replaced the cooling hoses, PDR on the dings, repaired some rust, and flushed the coolant out so far. Overall the truck is solid. Replacing the stereo with a double din pioneer unit. LCD screen on the instrument cluster is going out and will be replacing that soon.
It saves a ton of money being able to do all of this myself. I can't imagine spending dealer prices on these items.
Anyways, anyone do the propeller shaft before?
