Check your battery——I have known a couple people that got that error and it was fixed by replacing batteries (yes 2 of them). Mercedes and Porsche are very sensitive to battery performance and will throw error codes when the battery is near the end of life

Cheers

Thanks for your input about TC malfunction. Where are the 2 batteries located I think one is under one of the seats. I just bought this car last month and its a 2016 g63 and I asked dealer to chg battery since car was sitting around for 3 yrs and only 532 total miles when I purchased it.

Thanks Yukon

WOW!! Three years and 532 miles. Must be a good story here?? I would guess the batteries should be replaced after sitting for so long. Nice find!! Good luck and happy motoring.

Both batteries are located under rear seat (under cup holders)—-The smaller one is directly under the larger one—-its about the size of a motorcycle battery....I suggest replace yourself and forgo the $1500 dealer charge...both can be replaced with OEM for @ $800—pretty easy install. Just use 9v battery memory plug in cigarette lighter to keep memory in-tact

cheers

Thanks for tip on battery I asked dealer to chg out battery before purchase they said they did but must look at paper work on service request. Is it possible for them to just do a partial chg. on battery without replacing the entire battery on my 2016 g63??
Secondly, car is in shop right now and they said must replace TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR is this a big deal?? Any thing to worry about??

Thanks Yukon

seems to me TC malfunction would stand for Transfer Case.....or am I just being too logical here?

Question

Yes TC= transfer case malfunction from my understanding it is used to shift back & forth from High & Low 4x4 drive. Dealer now is saying it's a problem with TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR that is not responding to control unit ?? This is my first MB so I will see how it goes?? Hoping this repair is simple and nothing to be worried about.

Transfer case actuator failure is a common problem. As you stated, the transfer case actuator motor shifts the transfer case between High, Low, and Neutral. The motor has a nylon gear set that is notorious for failing. Early models also had issues the the TC actuator controllers as well, but I assume your G is a late enough model that it does not have that issue. You can likely plan on replacing the TC actuator at least once if you own your G for any length of time.

Question

My G63 is a 2016 late model and I have owned it 1 month with only 3400 miles I bought it as a cpo with only 532 miles if you can believe that. It sat around for 3 yrs...
Where is actuator and is it easy to get to for a quick repair or is it very involved??

Thank You so much!!!

Replacement of the TC actuator is a 20 minute job once the truck in on the lift. The actuator motors are expensive, though.

I know I was shocked when I found it... I have been looking around for cpo & 2019 but not many 2019 around . The G sat around in garage for 3 yrs... Clean as a whistle like brand new, but qfter 1 month of ownership and 3400 miles I have this TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR problem and trying to learn about what it is and if its a BIG DEAL or nothing to worry about. I'm still in the HONEYMOON period and this stuff is not suppose to happen after 1 month!

How has your experience been with MB products and repairs?? How is the G on the beach if you run the the COD beaches I'm going to try the Hampton beaches this summer with my new Pirelli Scorpion Zero all season tires even though I requested the ATR from pirelli but never got.

Thanks Yukon

There is probably a reason why it sat around for 3 years... If it is CPO why are you here asking for answers, just take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. Enough said. Trust me if you dont get on it now these little things will just get pushed out. TAKE IT BACK AND TELL THEM TO FIX IT...

If I had to do it over again all the issues that I had I would have taken it back on every little issue until they were all resolved.

A 3 year nap probably killed both batteries. Surprised it took a charge. Was there a battery trickle charger connected all this time? Regarding memory retention device - a good idea if you want to avoid resetting radio, seats, mirrors, windows, etc., but if you use a cig lighter type, make sure the lighter socket you plug into is one that has power present when ignition is off (if switched through a relay when ignition is off it won't work). You should be able to find a much better price than $800 for the set, but your CPO warranty should cover it.

It's really annoying that MB conceals every serviceable item possible from owners, and then provides cryptic and misleading annunciations that force owners into dealer service departments that charge $400 for the 20 minutes it takes to changeout a $20 aux battery. Hope the OP pushes the CPO warranty for every possible last $.

so these trucks have 3 batteries I think. Replacing my motor bike size battery fixed it. I believe it was around $80-100 at the dealer

its underneath the Main big battery where the foot cup holders are in the middle rear seat

I was aware of the 2 collocated batteries in the rear center floor. I recall seeing YouTube on DIY access and replacement. I've heard speculation about a 3rd battery, but don't recall anyone identifying its location. My 2019 has a single massive battery under the cargo floor at centerline. I haven't found or read about a second battery in the new model, but possibly one exists. If there is one, it's not mounted next to or beneath the main battery.

Rvalencia77, did this resolve your issue? I have this now. I see it sometimes when I lift my foot off the brake. Not every time. I've had my 2016 for 6 years. Haven't changed the main battery yet & just learning about this auxiliary battery.

I had this error on and off. Then aux battery completely let go and I got bunch of other errors including blind spot, radar cruise etc. going offline.

Anyway, aux battery is $140 at autozone and took about an hour to replace. Have not had any errors since then though it hasn't been that many miles yet.
