Anyone in the same "boat" as me? G63 at port awaiting ship

As of Friday Nov 15th my G is at the port awaiting a boat to ship! Wahoo. Anyone else at the port as well?
Mine is headed to Baltimore. Any G brothers or sister sharing the journey with mine?

(my fingers are crossed for an early Dec delivery)

Best estimate to hit the ground at your dealership is six to eight weeks after truck is built. Mine is scheduled for production tomorrow and that's the estimate I have received from the dealer. I've been told there is no delay at the port of entry because the MY '20 is not considered a "new" model. We shall see.

Nice BCM - I expect we will be on the same boat. My SA keeps me posted on each monumental step so I will know the day it is assigned and I will PM you the info (unless you hear before me, do share).

I'm 8 weeks and counting since the truck was built Oct 15th. the last three weeks its been sitting at the US port in Brunswick GA for no good reason. Bizarre, in most businesses you want to get your finished inventory off your books and paid for ASAP.

That's actually a relative long time. There has to be a reason for that. Maybe it's waiting on a part of some sort. Also in this case everyone knows that truck is sold and will be paid for as soon it hits the dealership

Johnny,

My G is scheduled to land in Georgia on November 28th.

Hopefully our G’s aren’t held at port to long.

My SA called me this AM. I was in a rush at work so didn’t get the ship name. Next time I speak to him I’ll be sure to ask for it. I’m going to call him back soon to request not to wash the vehicle, not to drill for a license plate, ect.

Why not wash it, afraid of scratches? I did not think of that! But yes, 100% no drilling. I run without the front plate. I plan to get mine treated with ceramic pro and bray windsheild protection immediately. Suppose I have them detail it pre-ceramic too instead of a dealer wash.

Correct, dealers are more concerned with how fast they can wash your car rather than the condition they leave the paint in.

I may also request to leave plastic on the seats and paper on the floor boards until I pick it up. I’m on call the second week of December and in Colorado on vacation the entire week of Christmas and may not be able to pick it up the day is arrives.

Eventually I’ll give in to the free wash they offer with routine maintenance, but I’ll hold out as long as I can!

it’s pretty weird. It’s now been a month since I was notified that it had arrived in the states. I’ve been getting emails from Mercedes congratulating me on my new car, urging me to download apps etc. The salesman assigned to me after the departure of the guy who took the order seems low energy; perhaps the commission accrues to the guy who left and he doesn’t care?
I’m about ready to start researching regional management to see how to get some clarity, anyone have ideas?

Ask to speak with the sales manager (not your new assigned agent).

correct the management team seem to have access to the tools to get more info. Throughout my reservation and delivery process, I worked directly with general sales manager who was able to check the status real time and provide info

my truck is on a boat and I’m able to track its progress. It is a lot of fun.

I did this for my GT3... it is fun!

Though the ship will drop off the map somewhere mid-sea and then all of a sudden re-appear when it lands at its first stop stateside.

Dont freak out, it didn’t sink!

Enjoy my friend

My ship arrived in Baltimore today. The level of tracking was nice. Now it is a waiting game as it unloads and travels up the coast. Maybe a few days or a few weeks. Who knows?

My G550 arrived in Georgia yesterday and was loaded on a truck the same day. That’s unexpectedly fast!

Will be picking it up from my dealer in South Texas this Saturday : )

They appear to unload these trucks at a super pace. 24 hours about for thousands of vehicles is impressive.

My G63 is "released to carrier"! Should have her soon.
For anyone wondering about timelines:
  • Feb 3rd 2019 - Called agent to place order (NJ dealer, AMG enthusiast - and drives and AMG too)
  • Oct 15th got my PO and build slot
  • Nov 7th Build date
  • Nov 22nd Car assigned a ship
  • Dec 3rd Ship arrived in Baltimore
  • Dec 10 Car released to Carrier
I expect the G to be in NJ this week presuming the carrier gets filled quickly.

Next up will be photos and detailed reviews comparing it to my 2016 GLE63 and a 2013 G550. Cant wait.

Any day now...

My 2020 G63 arrived at the port in Baltimore on 12/10. It will hopefully be at the dealer by the holiday!
