Is matte black played out?
My obsidian black wagon arrives in a couple of days and it goes for PPF directly from the dealer. I couldn't pick a color (wish I would have picked olive or sintered bronze). Anyway Xpel comes in gloss or stealth (matte) finish and I'm not sure which way to go. I feel like the Matte look is clapped out. What do you guys think?

But get what puts a smile on YOUR face when you see it! I am not a fan of Black due to the upkeep since I like clean vehicles and since I live right on the beach a glossy car looks matte overnight due to the salty seabreeze! But it is really your choice. I notice every vehicle no matter the make/model and there are very few Matte finishes overall in my area so it would stand out here for sure. I almost ordered the Platinum Magno as I like it a lot but I chickened out and went with Selenite Gray.

2024 G 63
I've always had shiny paint on my cars. I recently got interested in a new G 63, and I assumed that I'd want typical black or silver or gray. My wife never liked the looks of G wagons, but I thought I'd take her over to our local MB dealer so she could take a closer look. The only G they had was matt silver-ish paint (Platinum Magno). My wife loved it! She said the matt paint was perfect on a G. Now she wants one...thanks to the matt paint
I was planning on ordering Platinum Magno until I saw a new G 63 Night Black Magno driving down Pacific Coast Highway last week. I liked it even more than Platinum Magno! Nothing is ever easy, huh? LOL

Don’t know, don’t care. I am getting midnight magno black on my incoming G63 because I think it looks the best in that color combo. I don't see many matte cars in the first place, so I don't think they're played out.
I was contemplating switching back to my original obsidian black order until I saw a matte magno night black G63 pull up next to me the other day. I see countless normal black G63 but they didn’t look as awesome to me as that matte. It made me smile, I loved it and now I am keeping it for sure.
Also looking forward to not having to deal with swirl marks - they drive me crazy. I now wince when I see my now less beautiful black Range Rover in full sun because the swirl marks look so noticeable, despite me only getting it hand washed, and they drive me insane.

I hope so. Matte paint, black or otherwise, did not play well for me even when it was a new thing. Even less so now that it's an old thing.

I love the satin/matte look on cars, especially on the G. But at the end of the day, who cares! Get what YOU want and think looks good. You’re spending an exorbitant amount of money on these things, do with it as you please.

i am getting matte black on my 550. looks great. but will get entire car with xpel installed because i have strong sense the paint is going to be a very hard upkeep 🤷♂️

Love the night black, feels like the magno paint gives the G more of a rugged look, rather than a classy look. Granted that the car is meant to look rugged, I find magno night black compliments it very well. There is upkeep for sure, but considering the price of the vehicle that should be a given as well. I’ve also had green on the GTR and white magno on a s63 coupe and I never really had any issues.

I took a pole of me myself and I and found the results indicate that: No it is not played out. I have obsidian black but man i do love it when I see any color matte G. Il consider wrapping mine in the future.
