Newbie Here w/ Pics and a Few Questions
I'm the proud owner of an '03 G500 purchased in September 2017 with 150K miles. It's a second car that I've only driven about 10K miles in 2.5 years but I'd like to drive it more. It hibernates in winter since it came to me rust free and I love it too much to expose it to Ohio winters and salt.
When I first bought it I planned on turning it into an off roader but haven't gotten around to doing any modifications. The only off pavement action it's seen is some light mud and a shallow creek (which seemed SO much deeper/cooler at the time haha!). I'd like to finally get around to off roading it this year since it's currently just a garage queen, which wasn't my original intent for it.
I'll have plenty of questions about aesthetic and off roading modifications and plan on tapping into the forums and you guys to answer them. I am not mechanically inclined and have never modified a car but I've gotta start somewhere, right? I also have very little/no experience off roading. I did the Land Rover Full Day Experience in Asheville, NC about 4 years ago and that set off this whole wild scheme. (Plus I follow some G off roaders on Instagram)
To start off, I've got two questions.
1. On Road Tires - I've searched the forum but probably missed a relevant thread so apologies if this has been asked and answered!
- My G is currently equipped with BG Goodrich T/A KO2 tires on the stock 18" wheels (this was the setup when I bought it)
- I'd like to buy a second set of wheels/tires for on road driving and keep the BFGs for off road use only. I'm looking at the G550 stock 18" wheels (style 85154) and would love recommendations on a good all around road tire. I understand tire questions are always tricky because it all comes down to personal preference.
2. Floor Jack -
- I'd like to buy a floor jack to be able to swap the wheels myself and was wondering if a 3 ton, low profile floor jack with a maximum lift height of 19" would work. My daily driver is a BMW e90 335i that requires a low profile jack so I'd love to only have to buy 1 jack that works for both cars if possible.
There's just something special about the G and I look forward to engaging in a community that's far wiser than I and that appreciates these vehicles just as much as I do.
Newbie and wannabe car guy here so please be gentle!

Thanks,
Andrew
