Dealer is now crawling back to me and begging

Perhaps because of the current market downturn, potential buyers have dropped off of the wait lists at various dealers.

The dealer originally told me it was going to be a 2 year wait, but now they're calling me and asking me if I would like to buy a G63 today. 3 months ago, they were telling me to wait 2 years and pay 30k over MSRP. Now, they're practically begging me to buy one. Anyone else having the same experience?

G63s and a few others
Not surprising. Millions of businesses have closed, many will never come back. I can’t imagine buying a G or any other high priced vehicle is at the top of a lot of lists right now.

I am happy mine is now delayed because it gives me more time to think about it and see where are months from now.

Had the same experience today. G 550 became available because someone backed away. Not my color or equipment but may take a look. The dealer is going down their waiting list and calling to gage interest. Seems the auto market has been negatively impacted by these unprecedented times. As much as I enjoy these trucks I have been having second thoughts about following through. Just too much uncertainty with this pandemic.

By the 4th quarter this will be over, and even some of the well known Bears are saying the same thing. I am not saying things cannot get worse since I am sure they will but this cannot, and will not, last forever. Personally, I am looking forward to mine and with the delay it gives me more time to look into parts and accessories, and I am actually packaging emblems to send to my painter right now since I am not a fan of the Chrome Stars.

There was one (built, on their showroom floor, also a dropped reservation) for $15k over when I was calling around, they might have dropped to MSRP since then if it hasn't sold. I don't remember exactly which dealer, just that it was in GA.

Do you remember the spec? G550? Selenite Grey?

When I was looking for an allocation a few months ago the dealers around Atlanta were telling me they had 2 year waiting lists and no one was at or even close to MSRP....how times can change.

G
When is/was your build date? Whats your anticipated delay? G63 or G550? My G63 build a few weeks ago was scheduled 2nd decade of April but now delays. Curious to see when mine would come in too.

My first build was planned for March 30th but they could not change the exterior color in time so my other one, with the correct color, is planned for May 30th. The only thing my dealer is telling me is that there will be delay, but until the plant reopens no one knows how long of a delay there will be. Keep in mind that customer orders get priority over regular allocations so it may not be delayed that long, if at all.

2024 G 63
I got an April allocation for a G 63 a few months ago, and I agreed to $15K over MSRP. The dealer submitted my order to the factory a couple weeks ago. All I can do now is "hurry up and wait" Surprisingly, I was able to sell one of my Ferraris two weeks ago for a good price (same price as I expected before the coronavirus fiasco). It's somewhat reassuring to know that I'm not the only optimist.

Out of curiosity, I contacted another Mercedes dealer in my area and expressed interest in a new G 63. They didn't even flinch. Their response was "we get $40K over MSRP." Not from me you won't. LOL

Not one bit, my vague recollection says white G63. I called too many dealerships that day, sorry :/

Yes, this is usually their first-go response to gauge your desperation and willingness to pay. If you manage to stay on the phone long enough, they might start talking in hypotheticals, such as "now, would you buy a G 63 25k over?" or "would you put a deposit today for 15k over?"

From a dealership standpoint, it is strategical to not show desperation even if they are. Much like how everything is "okay" and "under control" even though the US just passed China in number of coronavirus cases. While reporting abnormalities may play a role, the US has had a dismal amount of test kits and restricted testing (California said they won't even test people if a negative result will change their quarantine behavior, so you have a lot of people floating around with potential positives). So if anything, the US's actual numbers are much higher than reported (Johns Hopkins suggest up to 20 cases for every reported).
