Haven't been on the forum for years! Been out of the AMG gang for a bit.... Needed a break from the brand after being used and abused LOL

Long story short(?), ordered an Edition 1 G63 way way back when they announced the car. Ended up getting screwed by the dealer who sold it from under me to another buyer at 50k over... Having owned a good amount of Mercedes and AMG products I was livid. Was told I could order another one for MSRP... Obviously I declined. Was already on the fence about the G63 or the Urus and they made my decision very easy. I ended up purchasing a Urus . AMAZING SUV btw.

Any how, apparently the dealer put in an order when they offered me (at MSRP) a replacement and that came in around Oct. of 2019... They called and I declined it, but asked if I could let a friend know (who was in the market for one) know that they have a car at MSRP... The manager informed me that if I did not take the car they were going to sell it to someone else at 35k over! Insane....

Fast forward today... I got the urge to buy a G63 for hauling summer toys. Will be doing a lot of outdoor activities since it seems to be the safest thing to do while all this craziness is happening. Reached out to Mercedes before all this virus went down and they were able to bump my build and would only take 3 months to arrive since they screwed me so many times. Then this whole virus thing came into play and the factories closed... Ideally need the car in the next two weeks so had some people feel out the market for new G63's at MSRP available now. Found one that is almost what I want.... Black on Red with diamond quilting, etc etc... It has the Trail Package though? I've seen a few pictures online of cars with it but I am still kinda unsure about it... Does anyone on here have a G63 with it and can tell me the difference? I read the press release on it but it doesn't really tell me much.... I really wanted a shade of green but think that is asking for a lot at MSRP unless I build it... So I will settle haha

It looks like the Trail Package just adds All-Terrain tires, different 20 inch wheels, underbody skid plates, and rubber mud flaps and floor mats.... The 2020 Mercedes-AMG G63 Is Getting a Trail Package
The main difference in the drive will be from the wheels and tires, perhaps a little more 'rumbly' and slightly less sporty grip. Otherwise, not a big difference and the changes will be nice if you plan on driving a lot of dirt roads.

 

I ordered mine with the trail package. Very happy with it. I wanted to retain the "indestructible" feeling that I think you lose with larger rims. I was unsure until it arrived - but I'd order it with trail again. Ride with "Comfort" turned on is very close to my Range Rover. Ride with "Sport" is akin to a 1st-gen X5 (which is a very good thing). Feels precise, sporty, but not too locked down.

I hated the giant rims on my X6M and RRS - was just too rigid.

 

I also have trail package with a similar color - mine is Night Black Magno on the Red Exclusive interior w/ Carbon Fiber. Definitely a unique combination - in comfort mode, I would say the ride is very bouncy, almost as if the G had air suspension (which is crazy!) - so much so that I often drive with the suspension in S or S+ mode for a stiffer ride. In comfort suspension mode, I would compare the ride to an S550 even - it's that boat-like. However, in S and S+, the G handles incredibly well - light years ahead of my 2015 G63.

I would say Trail Package is def worth considering because it gives the G a very unique look - most G63s I've seen (they are plentiful - saw 6 alone on a 2 mile stretch on PCH yesterday in SoCal) all have the 22" forged wheels, but I really like the tougher look of the 20" trail package wheels with the all terrain tires and the mud flaps (which are also unique to the Trail Package).

 

Most people don't get the Trail Package primarily because they want the 22 inch black wheels, which is incompatible.

If you don't care for the big wheels, then definitely go trail package. The suspension is softer, so you will likely get more nose dive, body roll, and lurching when driving hard. I think that's fine since you're buying a body on frame SUV, not a sports car. Also, feeling just how hard the cabin heaves and hoes when under hard acceleration is part of the unique experience of a G63. You're never going to set any records with a box shaped SUV, so why not double down on the unique features of the G63? All the other fast SUV I've experienced in a similar price point feel alot more car like. The G63 is the only one that still feels like a truck in some ways.

It's possible! Tracked a G63 down at sticker... Arrived last week at the dealer, getting it shipped out to me tomorrow

Wasn't sure about the trail package rims so ordered a nice set of Vossens. Will keep them on off-road tires though.

Congrats for the G63. Pls share your experience with the trail package. for example how good are the tyres and is ti comfortable on streets in high speed maybe.

 

How big are the tires? Is there a lift over stock?

Not 100% certain but the butt dyno says more power and ride is softer. I wonder if the Suspension settled like PGT cars and if ECU is tuned for this.

Random thought, no way in hell and I following the 10k mile oil change recommendation. I’ll likely do it every 3k miles.

 

We ordered a trail package G63 to replace my wife's 2014 G63. We didn't like the looks of the new G63 as much as the old one, so wanted to go for something that might look a bit more rugged at least. That, and the 21s and 22s look silly on these things. We're quite happy with the way it turned out and drives - way better than the old one in most respects.

Hi guys, my incoming G63 (diamond white with night package etc...) comes with Trail Package... not my choice but the car ticked off all boxes... the trail package has grown on me and i like the rims but i think eventually want to remove the mud flaps and get summer rims in the 21 inch range... is this possible?

I like the black skid plate and praying i will like the suspension as I love stiff cars... no roll!

 

My G63 also has Trail Package - in comfort suspension mode, there is quite a lot of body roll and the car drives like my old S550. But in Sport+, the ride is very similar to my old G63, but handles infinitely better/no body roll! For a vehicle without air suspension, the suspension settings make a HUGE difference!
