Muffler delete on w463 G63
Last year I had taken it to the muffler shop before and once on the lift I was surprised to see as was the shop the G63 has no resonators or secondary cats just mufflers. On my AMG cars I always like to do secondary cat + resonator delete. So I held off.
Just got the truck back from service and decided to revisit the idea. I watched some YouTube clips of m157 engines straight piped and they sounded awesome. I really wanted downpipes but the cost + the need to tune (I’ve done the drive with CEL on many other catless untuned cars) didn’t appeal to me. Also never could find a good tune that’s suitable for this truck.
So today I went to my trusty muffler shop in the heights (bronx) if anyone is familiar with NYC. They did my RR muffler work and my M5 and charge 1/10th what “shiny authentic shops” up charge for shiny floors and service. Downside is limited Spanish is required LOL.
I’m having it done as I write this. The cost was extremely reasonable and I’m hoping the sound will be good.
They did a y pipe from where the mufflers used to be. Once under the truck you’ll see it’s extremely easy job anyone can perform.
My truck is not a daily and sees maybe 5k miles a year so not worried about drone.
I’ll try to post some videos and clips in the near future. I know this is a discussed topic here but not many pull the trigger or go through with it. Finally decided that I had too.
Have you considered cutouts before the mufflers? They can be activated from inside the cab and the exhaust exits before the muffler. When you want it quiet, turn it off and the exhaust goes through the muffler. When I had them a cop heard me coming down the road at WOT and was watching for me. The best he could do was a no front plate ticket
