W464 G63 - How do I replace the air filters?
I have two K&N air filters sitting in my garage and I'd like to install them.
Any help would be appreciated.
I asked a simple question and you turned it into an attack.....yet you tell me to "grow-the-frack-up". Is that a Battle Star Galactica referrence????
I just put a set of K&N filters in my G63. Nothing wrong with helping the engine breathe a little easier, and saving money by reusing them. Just oil lightly. 🤷🏻♂️

INSTALLING THE K&N FILTERS
Be assured as with many things, the first time is a true “learning experience”
1. After you open the hood on a cool motor, be sure to take a minute or two to identify where everything is and get your tools ready.
2. Clear off a padded area to put your engine cover on so it isn’t damaged.
3. Cover both fenders and the front area above the radiator with non scratchable padded material.
4. Please understand that MB uses those rubber press connectors on alot of areas. If you aren’t familiar with them and how they come off and on, try a R&R on a test connection.
5. Removing the engine cover - Gently reach under the cover in the front and apply upward pressure to just release it in the front not take it off. Then work your fingers toward the rear of the engine on the drivers side (left side) until you feel a long support piece that is attached to the cover and press fit in a receiving area at the top of the engine. Again gently apply upward pressure until it releases from the engine side. Now move to the right side rear and you’ll see where it is attached. Remove it and set it on your padded work bench.
6. Air Boxes - Now you can clearly see and have access to the air boxes. First using a screw driver or small ratchet, loosen the hose clamp closest to the air box taking note of where the tightened clamp is positioned so you can put it back in the same place. Then loosen the clamp on the other end of the hose so it can be moved with your hands. Loosen and remove just the end of the hose connected to the air box. and move it out of the way of the opening hole.
Now locate the 4 torx type screws that hold the front of the air box together. 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. Remove these screws and set them aside. You may have to locate the rubber press fit connectors on the air box and gently lift up on them to raise the airbox up enough to remove and install the filters. ALSO, please be sure to locate and become familar with the connectors that are attached to the air box. You don’t want to break any connectors or wires. Also be sure to recheck these connections when you reassemble everything.
Air Filter Installation - Before removing anything, be sure to study the direction of each stock filter in the air box. Also, there is a finer filter attached to the stock units that you won’t reuse since the K&N’s are one piece. You should be able to lift the air box up and remove the stock filter and install the K&N making sure the filter seal in the air box is not pinched or out of position. Then replace the airbox screws, check the connectors, place the airbox over the rubber connectors and gently but firmly press downward until it is secure. Now, replace the hose and properly align and tighten the clamps. CHECK YOUR WORK. Then move on to the next one which will go much faster. Retest all of the push connectors. Now replace the engine cover taking care to secure the stud/connector first and then the right rear and finally the front ones.
FIRE IT UP AND ENJOY.
My own experience is that it has more seat of the pants power through all of the ranges, it seems to have a deeper exhaust tone with more air moving through.
I think it is well worth the money and time spent.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Best regards
Jerry

You want the SKU: 33-3140
I recommend you call and ask if they will accept your current ones back in exchange. I have always had good experiences with them over the years. Just be sure the packaging is still like new.
All they can do is say NO.
Best regards

Saw this video from reputable YouTuber with engineering background scientifically proving a real world 2-3% increase in HP/Tq and 0-60 time.
I would add to the instructions above:
For the engine cover there are a total of 6 press-fit attachments (3 along each side, left and right) that hold the cover in place. They come up fairly easy.
Once cover is off I would loosen large silver ring clamp around the largest hose that is located medially to the airbox first with a flat head screw driver.
Second loosen small black rubber hose feeding The airbox from the front with a pair of heavy pliers. This clamp is tuff. Will need heavy pliers. Hose dose not need to come off, only slip back off of airbox enough to provide slack.
Then with a size 25 torx wrench unscrew 4 screws. All located facing upward on the box. Loosen until they spin freely. Should not come out entirely.
Then pull up gently on the airbox lid from the front. (Caution not to disconnect/displace the electrical connections located at the rear of the airbox.) Two press-fit attachments should come loose in consecutive order. This allows the front of the box to come up enough to slide out the paper air filter (I did it in pieces as it tore with little resistance) and slide in the K&N filter. The K&N filter slides in much more easily as it is thinner than the original paper one.
Will report back with my driving experience.

NIce to know that others are doing this kind of work for themselves.
1-remove the 3 covers by pulling each cover up gently
2- loosen the hose clamps, 4 total
3- separate the sensor connectors, one on the back of the driver side air box, and one on the side of the passenger air box. There is a small tab/lock that keeps the sensors together.
then pull the air box up and out of the air intake piping. Flip over and see the torx screws to open the air box.

this was very helpful. I followed these instructions and was able to get my air filters switched. Thanks for helping out .
