Brake Dust

As a perfectionist I find myself scrubbing the OEM 22 forged crossspokes every 100 or so miles to rid the hated brake dust.
My 2016 turbo s with ceramics can go thousands of miles with nary a speck of dust.
how I wish ceramics were an opton. I dont buy the argument that ceramics dont work for off road SUV's Lambo has no issue with ceramics on the Urus and their off road testing ads seem to prove that.
Heck if MB is worried about off road, just make them an option for those who stay on road

Have you tried using a wheel coating product? I have no experience with them, but others say it retards dust adhesion.

I agree, mine are coated and it makes cleaning easier but not dust adhesion. I am waiting for Centric to stock pads for the newer G (https://www.apcautotech.com/automoti...edes-benz/g550), which should reduce the amount of dust and not affect braking.

True since most of the dust comes from the rotors, not pads. I have ceramics on my Porsche and love them...wish I could have got them on the G!

Someone stated that ceramics down perform well when dirty/off roading hence the lack of option. No clue if this is true. I've taken to cleaning the wheels thoroughly every 3 months or so. Makes a huge difference to see the matte black finish vs the brake dust coated finish.

On my older 2008 G55, I recently put in ceramic brakes for my move from LA to Seattle.

I was washing brake dust off every weekend with light city driving.

With these ceramic brake pads, I had amazing braking... had a few close fast stops in the mountain pass in Oregon and they performed flawlessly.
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...1-w251-eur1123

Didn't wash my truck for about 3wks after we moved to our new house as I was way too busy.

When I went to wash the tires there was barely any dust at all. Definitely blew me away.

After I refresh my E63's brakes next year likely going with the same ceramic pads, because the ones on there now are out of control.

I haven't gone offroad with the new brake setup in my truck yet, but I think they will do the trick once I get back out there.

I also have PCCB on my GT3, no brake dust, but it’s a $9K option.

I put in aftermarket ceramic brake pads on my Rover and agree the dust is like night and day. I know it's not a true ceramic braking system, but the quieter squeal + minimal brake dust make it worth it to me.

I'll be interested in a similar solution for the G when it comes out.

Who made the pads you used on the Rover?

Disc Italia, ordered from brakeworld.com.

Just checked they don't have anything for 2019+ G-Class.

Funny, I got a message from them today:

"I see Mercedes used a new pad shape starting in 2019-2020 for the G550.
Disc Italia has new part numbers but unfortunately they are not available:
Front set: HCD2209
Rear set: HCD2210"

Ceramics are a poor choice for off road. Ceramic discs are fragile and serious off roading beats up the car a lot.

Then again, nappa leather seats, matte paint, and alcantara is a bad idea for off roading as well. I do agree that Mercedes should have made ceramics an option, just to add to the ridiculousness of the vehicle.

I got ceramic coating on the wheels and calipers (plus on the whole vehicle including ppf, same for all of my vehicles) helps with washing.

yes I hate the brake dust too!

I have ceramic pads on my L405 Range Rover as well and it made a big improvement as far as brake dust. OEM pads dusted horribly. My pads are Akibono rear and R1 Concepts for fronts. Also I ceramic coated my wheels, makes cleaning easier but doesn't stop dirt from sticking

Quite frankly the only option that would make me order a new G and pary with my 2019 is a ceramic brake option. Until you have driven a ceramic brake vehicle you never want one without

Agree! installed that brand on me E class and very very low brake dust.
Will use them on G when time for replacement.
