Many don’t know it exists – most don’t know where it’s located – nobody wants to pay a dealer to do this.
Dealers replace these at scheduled service intervals, but if you suffer from allergies, drive in heavy traffic, or merely want to minimize dust inside your car, you might want to be changing this filter more frequently than 12 month intervals. As shown in the photo, the cabin filter is located in the engine compartment, against the bulkhead on the passenger side. Removal is not too difficult – reach behind the ear on each side of the plastic housing (as shown by the red arrows) and press the tab inward, while lifting the front of the housing upward (as shown by the black photo) and the housing pulls free.
As shown in the second photo, the filter is held in place with some plastic tabs around the housing’s perimeter. Use a flat-blade screw driver to pry the filter element over the tabs and out of the housing. When installing the replacement filter, observe the arrow on the filter that indicates air flow direction.
The housing pops back into place. Total time to replace is less than 5 minutes.
The MB part number is A463 830 1102. There are some after-market filters that should fit including FRAM CF11719 and WIX WP10124. Not many auto stores carry MB parts so you’re as well off buying MB OEM filters from one of the online MB parts places such as Pelican, Autohaus, etc. It seems as if most parts suppliers make you shop by vehicle rather than by component specs, and I’ve found several incorrect filters specified so make sure you check the filter dimensions: 9.7” x 7.4” x 1.3”.
The MB filter is about $22, and this is for a standard no-frills OEM replacement. There are also carbon impregnated filters that are supposed to absorb odors and HEPA filters that are supposed to trap more particulates (but also reduce air flow). I have no experience with these and can’t comment on their efficacy.
FreciousPlus is a Mann filter product (https://www.frecious-plus.com/en). Compatibility of this filter p/n FP26010 is with MB p/n 463 830 0018, and fits pre-MY2019 G-class. Cost is about $44 at Pelican Parts.
There is no FP cabin filter currently available for MY2019+ G-class vehicles according to the online fitment guide.
