Polished/Buffed My Matte '13 G63 ... Now What?
I know, I know, never buff matte. I was away for a few months (pre-covid) and I let a friend use my car for a while. When I came back, he was proud to show me that he took great care of it and even got it cleaned upon my return. The problem is, right away I noticed the matte had been ruined. It's not all over the car (which, frankly, is worse) so now there are some patches of shiny/glossy black and the rest of the car is matte. I've taken it to several body shops and get the same response of "it's not worth it" but I plan on keeping this car forever (only 20k miles on it). So basically I'm wondering, can I just do a matte coat on the top of where the paint got messed up (I imagine it will look different from the rest of the car but will it be that much worse than having glossy spots?) or do I have to do the whole damn thing? Thanks.

Probably cheapest thing to do is have the vehicle wrapped with a matte vinyl wrap (ie. xpel stealth).
Not a permanent solution, but I imagine cheaper than having it repainted.

The problem with using a clear matte PPF is that the uneven paint will show through so you have 2 choices: have a shop do a multi-stage paint correction, which will basically polish the paint so that is even everywhere or use a Black Matte (or any other color) wrap.

From what I’ve read on these paints, you will need to have the entire vehicle refinished and the matte coat reapplied. My understanding is, you do not need to remove the base color coat, just the matte top finish.
Issue will probably be that most body shops will have no idea what to do.

Do you have any pictures? That will help with knowing the extent of the damage. It is true that the color for matte and gloss paint is the same, it's just the clear coat that's different. However, if the damage is deep enough, they may have to end up respraying the color regardless.

Sorry to hear about that, very rough thing to experience. Are you still friends with this person?

Look - for Paint - the entire G would have to be repainted - by a Premiere Shop that knows what they are doing - and the right job visually will not only be "expensive" - but will ALWAYS show up on a paint-meter as a repaint for anyone that checks .. and that value is just like having massive body repair.. if I had to guess $20K+ for a "righteous" job to get the metallic right
A wrap is the best bet - at least that will be under $10K - and there are creative things whether matte or exotic .. in Dubai and UAE wraps are the norm..
