G550 Fuel Economy

I noticed on the stickers of the 2021 G550s that stated MPG is 17 city, 19 highway. On the 2019's it's 13 city, 17 highway.

Is this accurate? Why the large discrepancy?

These are EPA mileage ratings, and car manufacturers have learned how to game the EPA system. Apparently the reason the G550 starts up with the ECO On/Off enabled (Comfort mode) is because this wins points in the fuel economy rating game. Shifting into Sport mode disables the ECO On/Off which (theoretically) compromises fuel economy. Does the MY2021 allow the ECO On/Off to be disabled? Fuel economy is, of course, more a function of individual driving style than a government agency dynamometer and test protocols. After 5500 miles my 2019 G's consumption calculator reports an average of 16.8 mpg. I estimate that 90%+ of my miles have been highway at 50 to 70 mph, while EPA ratings are based on (I think) a 45/55 ratio. I don't drive aggressively, but I have driven with ECO On/Off always disabled.

When scrolling through the service menu I noticed the MPG consumption indicator said 15.4 MPG over 5,800 miles. Mostly around town driving with very little highway. A lot better than the MY '16 I had before this MY '20. I usually refrain from MPG discussions with the G because I don't think anyone buys these vehicles based on fuel economy (or lack thereof). It is what it is and that's OK with me.

We took a 760 roundtrip journey out of state for Thanksgiving, mostly highway at 80mph: averaged 15.2mpg.

Not "worried". I noticed an unusual discrepancy and was curious about it.

Thanks to those who provided constructive, helpful responses.

I noticed the EPA highway MPG on the G63 is better on the '21 G63 vs. the '20 G63 as well. It's not just the G550.

I get about 13 mpg in my 2020, mostly driving around town, not much highway.

You chose this class of car and still monitor the fuel consumption? I've never seen such people. In my opinion, everything is okay with you, if you are so interested, you can read the information on other sites about your car. Before each purchase of a new car, I here always looked at the price of spare parts or even fuel consumption on this site https://fuelson.com/. In my opinion, everything is written in simple language, and everything is clear to me. You have such a car, and the difference in fuel consumption will always vary, so do not worry. Everything is normal for you. You don't have to worry.

On a G, "Fuel Economy" is an oxymoron.
