Heated Steering Wheel

Taking delivery of a 2021 matte black magno/red G63 next week. I didn't get to spec it myself but it literally has everything I would spec EXCEPT the heated steering wheel. the vehicle is coming from CA. it doesn't get too cold for too many days in houston but this is an option i've had on all my DDs since i can remember. Anyone done a retrofit or should i just wait for the next one that i spec myself.

A gaggle of MB's
The most "common" selection for G63 buyer's is to choose "No Heated Wheel" - as the Heated Wheel "drops" the "AMG Drive Unit Selectors" at the left/right bottom of the wheel.

"Most" buyer's prefer to have that handy/at-hand selectors at the wheel - over having heated.

i have the heated steering wheel on my 63 and do miss the drive unit selectors but boy do i use the heating function alot in the east coast. the only complaint i have is the steering wheel is carbon fiber so most of the wheel doesnt even get warm... you need to keep your hands on the alcantara section to feel the heat... so i am kind of “luke warm” on the option....

My wife swears by heated steering wheels in her past G's but she admits on the new one that the drive select knobs get used a lot more than a heated steering wheel would. We ordered a '21 and she was fine going without the heated wheel in favor of the drive select knobs. I'd keep it as is if I were you. It's only the few and far between days like today that you need heated steering wheel anyway!

Same as spourreza, I have CF wheel which doesn't heat up the entire part of steering wheel. I'd rather have cool looking drive unit knob for next G. Or maybe in the future, MB able to accommodate both features which I find it very odd they weren't able to for current model.

And $250 buys a fine pair that continues keeping you warm on the walk from the car park to your office.

In the U.K. the 350d G has been dropped and now you can only order the 400d. You can no longer spec the winter pack or the heated wheel anymore. This has stopped us from ordering the 400. I love the winter pack!

Good one...I laughed out loud when I pictured it! But I do not think it is easy thing for one to do in regards to converting it over.

I'm guessing all G steering wheels are assembled with the heating element, and buying the option gets you an on/off switch and controller. The heating element is a cheap component, and making 2 steering wheel versions would be logistically impracticable. But so would be retro-fitting the heater switch and controller.

Guys who made it for me take oem amg units and and make some coding (hardest part). In total they write in my car spec that option, activate amg menus etc. And install Air Balance (perfume) system with ionization, and also coding this options so now -2 things that I dont like in car )))
Next I hope will be mbux))

P.s. When I was plannint install amg units I find this, amg unit upgrade kit:
https://schawe-shop.de/en/mercedes-b...-mercedes-benz

but just swap them from oem steering wheel

Generally MB does not run wiring harnesses for features that are not in the build spec. So I highly doubt the wiring is there for a heated steering wheel, nor that the heating elements are there.

Personally I hate the rotary drive select control and the push buttons. They feel very cheap! It’s easy to setup and change driving modes via the console switch.
The heated steering wheel is a must have if you live in a region which experiences more than 1 season. I guess in Hawaii I wouldn’t miss it
