Next Generation G550 4x4² Rumors, thoughts & News!!

Hello Geländewagen Fans,

I recently came across this article and wondering what everybody thinks about the New One VS. the Outgoing G550 4x4²?

It seems that it doesn't have the front portal axles and not the same ground clearance as the current one!!

Do you think it will be more attractive because of the tech? in the interior MBUX if any etc? or it may have some drawback due to the change and it will keep changing as new models come out? VS the current one it will be one of a kind!!

Also, do you think that will be a major for the current one to lose its value as it ages or not?

I'm really hoping they will come up with a G63 4x4²

Thank you.

Thank you.
When the current G wagen came out we were told that there wasn't going to be a replacement for the 4X4 because they couldn't do the portal axle with the new front suspension.
However, having a more off road ready variant is a good thing. I don't think it will affect the value of the old car. It's rarity and uniqueness will keep resale values strong.

Let’s also be real that just bc it’s 4x4 doesn’t mean it will be taken off road than a standard. It’s all about flash and money to most who will buy it.

I think the original 4x4² looks way better than the proposed new one, I mean the new one looks quirky? I love mine, it looks proportional, that new one looks like "its aftermarket" I beg for better proportionality especially with the fender flares, and that front axle system looks off, and I bet production numbers will also dictate depreciation value?

It would be interesting to see if it is released, the asking price and what the year-over-year sales predictions are. I'm a function over form guy, one portal axle isn't for me. But I think there are people that would part with hundreds of thousands of dollars if Mercedes begins selling it and people don't trash it. Some of the 4X4 Squared (or maybe all of them?) didn't have cruise control. That puts a big negative on the idea of over landing across the Western US and beyond with it.

I wrote to Merc suggesting that they make something between the stock G550 and the 4x4 squared. Looks like you all can thank me

I like this - it's something beefier than stock without being too over the top. A 2.5" lift and 34-35" tires works nicely. A set of 18" beadlock wheels and some light cannons to go on front would be perfect.

But what exactly is it? If it doesn’t have portal axles, then it only has the ground clearance of the tires .... so it’s just a lift and tire kit?

I love my 4x4 so so so much and already have the slot for this new one locked up at my dealer but I’m wondering what it actually is this time around

Previous discussion here: https://mbworld.org/forums/g-class-w...2-squared.html

It would appear they will revert to live front axle for the portal version...
