Film for windscreen?

My G-class is currently having some corrosion issues fixed. Much of the corrosion is around the windscreen. Unfortunately, the windscreen cracked when it was removed so I am getting a new windscreen.

Despite a life of slow and gentle driving, the windscreen was quite pitted and scratched by 60k miles. I am wondering if there is something like a 3M film that can be applied to the windscreen to prevent this from happening again.

You could do Clearplex or something similar. The issue is how long it lasts. If you always park in a garage, and never use your wipers, the film will last years.

If you park outside and use your wipers frequently, I don't think it'll last more than 6-9 months.

I've looked into Clearplex and a few other similar options, and the general consensus is exactly like paulunm said. For a weekend/garage queen, it's perfect. For a daily, be ready to have it replaced at most every year if not more frequent. Here in the Northeast, the winter salt months will probably destroy it.
I'll be replacing my windshield due to lots of rock chips and pitting in the spring time, but think replacing the windshield every few years may just be a G right of passage.
Conveniently, if you have the windshield out every few years, you'll be able to inspect all around the window frame to check for rust! Oh the joys.

Have Exoshield on mine. 2 years in, no issues or cracks.

I'll check that out, thanks. What did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

Don’t mind at all. It was part of a full PPF and Ceramic coating, so I don’t know exactly, but I’m told about $300 for just the windshield.

I paid $500 for exoshield. 11 months in and 6700 miles I have 3-4 pretty good rock chips on the exoshield that may have been worse on an uncovered windshield. Fortunately none in line of sight. I know it’s not an ironclad guarantee but I do recommend it.

Thanks. That seems quite reasonable.

How did the ceramic coat turn out on your vehicle? I'm going to have a paint correction done when I get the truck back and I've been thinking about a ceramic coat. The paint is in good shape save for a few deep scratches. I've read that you should only coat a brand new paint job. Any thoughts?
