ahh ok thanks for the info.
No local shops have anything in stock and needs to be ordered ..which is a pain as would have like to roll up a tyre to see the stance before hand.

The 285's will fit - spacers will help move scrub angle out....the 500's flares limit things a bit, unless you get the offset perfect 295 is the limit I've seen... and 305's with a bit of lift can work as well...

2018 Mercedes G63
Hey guys from reading this thread it sounds like 275/55/20 is a safe route to go for bigger tires on my 2018 G63 without having to do a lift or use spacers. Is anyone doing anything bigger than 275/55/20 without rubbing or any other issues?

I ran 305's on our 13' G63 without a lift with just a 30mm spacer while waiting for rims to get built.... no rubbing. 20x10.5 et25 is perfect offset for the GG63 IMHO....

Telluride pic is stock suspension w/ 30mm spacer and 305/55/50 toyo at2

other are with forgestars as above spec and the same tires.

FWIW - I am currently run 325/65/18 on a 18x9.5 et 25 with a 30mm spacers on a 4" lift on our new G55 build - same flares and basic geometry minus the lift. -

But your use case is really what should dictate tire size if straying from OEM..... mall bus, stay stock..... mild fire roads etc maybe 285 overlander 305's maybe with a spacer or not..... and then.....this:

On my recent trip we did an iconic Australian road called the Gibb River Road. 660km of gravel with a reputation for destroying cars and tyres. Interestingly, there is a tyre repair guy midway along this road and he will only install BFG's. They handled any terrain we threw at it and they perfromed well. That said, they are not as good as the OE tyres on the bitumen.

Hope that helps

good day, I am about to buy 18 inch rims for a 2014 G63 and I am just a little afraid they will not fit due to the G63 brake callipers. you have not got any issues with that ?

18's MAY clear.... Forgestar said theirs had 3mm clearance when I've spoken with them.... I think a few folks may have Alpha's on their G's in 18's..... Jack at Jackwagon offroad and Mike at Eurowise likely may have ideas...or options.
over in Europe MAS/ Victor may do something ?

keep us posted as it's something asked a few times a years it seems, but rarely the result is shared....

would a 305/50R20 fit without rubbing (with or without spacer)? Going for lower height but wider tires to stick out from fender (does not need to be much). Or do you recommend 295/50R20 and run spacers? Ive seen another gwagon run 305 but not sure how much it rubs (if any)

Wheels i have
What size tires are these on the grey G550 shown above?

305 50R20 = 32" in diameter. It would probably fit and assuming you're running the wider AMG rims, should clear at both compression and full lock.

For reference, my tires are 285 70R18 = 33.7" in diameter. They are mounted on the stock 7.5" diameter wheels. My truck has a 40mm lift on it but no wheel spacers. They clear at both compression and full lock.

305's are plug and play - better with a 30mm Wheel spacers if you have the wider flares - on my 63 they rubber slightly on full lock before the spacers.... 40mm / 50mm springs or spring spacers help.

285 As JD101b's running are perfect if you don't like wheel spacers.

When I get the time I'm ordering a set of 63 replica fenders from Jack Wagon Overlanding and fitting the 30mm wheel spacers I already have. Should fill out those fenders nicely.

For the 2018 G63 we just bought, I'm getting ready to try the BFG ko3 in 285/60-20 E rated on the factory 9.5x20 ET which are ET 50 or 53. Due to that wheel being a bit too tucked, I'm going to use a 34mm wheel spacer but if that's too wide for fender clearance when articulating, then I'll see if H&R have a 25mm for the G. I realize 30mm might be the minimum of wheel bolt type mounting vs my Land Rover with its wheel nut design that does allow 25mm.

I also plan to use at least a 1" spring damper but probably also the 40mm spring spacer from JackWagonOverland if that doesn't require any other changes as I don't really want to get into all that yet. If I do go for an actual lift at some point, it will be 4" anyway and then I'll do all the things required.
I had planned to source 18" beadlocks but I'm not sold on the aesthetic design so will use this set up for a while.

This thread is a couple years old ut I'm hoping to revive it !

I am currently running 295's on my G with no lift and 30mm wheel spacers. Will be doing a 2" lift soon. Very minimal rubbing on the front liner with no lift

295/70R18 Toyo RT Trail tires. Overall diameter is 34.3" so it measures very similar to a 35x12.5R18

here's a side profile angle

I have a 2008 G55 and just installed a set of OEM G63 20x9.5 ET50 wheels with 275/60R20 = 33.0" tires, so far there is no rubbing.

The added height of the 60 size tire sure did help with the G55 stiffer ride, next I will likely install some G500 / G550 shocks to smooth out the ride even more.

I also plan to put some 30mm spacers on, but thats just for looks.

how you don't install fox 2.0 shocks? much better quality vs g500/g550 shocks.

Can you point us to information that shows the FOX shocks are the best option for daily driving on a GWagon that is not lifted ?

Most of what I have read so far points to the Bilstein Blue / Yellow B4 shocks for a G500 being the best option for a G55 to improve the ride.

Some of what I have seen on this and other sites have shown the FOX shocks to have issue after a while.

Thx Karl
