Can anyone recommend rust repair in the DC area?

Not in the DC area but look for the best-rated, most reputable body shop you can find. Rust repair should be relatively easy for them.

As an aside do you have any pictures of the damage?

Thank you. There is no bubbling or other visible signs. I can feel some surface rust starting under the gasket. There was also water under there. I'll post some pics once I get the winsheild off.

Just bought it last week.

If you load it with corrosion inhibiting oil, followed by corrosion inhibiting grease, it might stop the rust dead.

When you remove the windscreen, it almost inevitably breaks during removal so you need to will need to replace it.
