Hello all. Would someone mind explaining to me how the rear cargo area dome light knows when to come on when cargo door is open (2012 G550)? Reason I ask, all of a sudden my rear cargo area dome light will not come on when the rear cargo door is open (I realize the light will only come on when ambient light sensor does not detect light, and the issue is occurring in total darkness). The dome light works fine when using the switch in the front, and I made sure the dome light door switch in the front is set to the correct position as well. Still no luck. I see on the cargo door, bottom edge, there is a small contact-like plate (same as on all the side doors), so I was wondering if there’s maybe a sensor in the sill plate that works like a contact switch or something and maybe that has gone bad? Thank you!

Hello @mbcars , In the door's latch assembly there is a trigger/wire which activates the lights. You can raise and lower the latch (big red circle below) on the door to try it out, but here's what the assembly looks like. My guess is that there's a bad connection in the latch assembly. This could be remediated by cleaning the contacts of the connector (small red circle below) or possibly taking the assembly out and cleaning the whole thing. Good luck and hope this helps. Cheers.
