2008 G500 speaker upgrade
Hello,
I have recently purchased a 2008 G500 and wanted to upgrade the speakers, I have a general understanding of upgrades in the past with cars with non fiber optic cabling; however I have never dwelt in more complicated cars such as the W463.
I pretty much have my eyes set on focal component speakers and wanted to keep my 2008 NTG1 Command Screen, would the new speakers suffice with the OEM amp or can I upgrade and install an aftermarket AMP whilst still being able to use my OEM head unit.

Speaker upgrades in the G are fairly easy and straight forward. The OEM system is lacking in general, and the main culprit is the amp. Woefully underpowered.
You can just replace the speakers, but you will not notice much difference unless your speakers are ripped/broken.
You can technically use your Command screen with an aftermarket amp, but I would not advise it. The audio quality output of the Command system is subpar, and once you add in a good amp and good speaker (like Focals), you will be disappointed. I only say this because I helped a few other G owners upgrade their systems with high end components, and one of the most recent tried to retain the factory Command setup in his amp/speaker upgrade and ended up just replacing with a double DIN.
I designed and 3D print bolt-on speaker adapters for the W463 for most popular speaker models, including several from Focal. More info here:
