Nice man.

How is the superfast? Beautiful cars. I haven’t considered one as I don’t know much about them - but stunning.

Used Ferrari 812 range between $380k to $420k+ for the 'base model'. 7-year warranty with unlimited mileage is transferable. My guess, Ferrari can do unlimited mileage as so many cars become garage princesses.

Don't laugh. My first Ferrari and I picked the 812 because it's a GT and it's a little easier to get in and out of verses the traditional mid-engine sports car. I didn't want a garage princess. Little did I know at the time, this car is an absolute beast. 800hp, 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds, 211mph top end. Surprisingly tame and comfortable when you want. But WOW. When you smash that gas pedal and hear the naturally aspirated v12 sings. Nothing compares. So, much fun.

How did I get here from a G63 Squared? Well, I had my allocation for the Squared and have firmly been on the fence about it. On one hand, it's so ridiculously cool. On the other hand, would I drive it regularly? I'm 58 years old and concerned about my knees jumping in and out of it regular basis. But it's so cool! Right?!

Anyway, when you're at $425k for a car, you in pretty rare price category. Lots of options. As the delays happened, it gave me more and more time to mull on the decision. The other "SUV" that came to mind was the Ferrari Purosangue. So, I ended up ordering one of those... It's a 2 to 3 year waiting list. Heavy Sigh.

So, back to the G63 Squared. The video on the $4m mistake was great. It does make you wonder, are the Square buyers are getting caught up in the hype and bubble of the GWagon craze. This price point is close to a stretch for Mercedes brand and it's a very unique vehicle.

I honestly, still on the fence about this purchase. Don't get me wrong. I love it and glad it exists. But, if it's going to be more of a collector type car, I have to look at the potential deprecation down the road. I'm not looking to make money, but at the same token; not looking to get crushed.

I can't be the only one facing this dilemma. Can I?

P.S. As I was typing this, the car dealer called. They said my build date is May. I asked about the delays, he didn't know. Said, May is the date he was given. I guess, I need to make a final decision pretty soon.

812 is an amazing car. Just wish there was a touch more headroom in them. The V12 is intoxicating.

Tough call on the Squared decision. If you aren't paying ADM then I'd say it's a safe buy for not losing your a$$. It's not a practical vehicle, so if you can put up with not being able to fit in garages, and it's tough for shorter people to get in and out, then you'll be able to enjoy a very cool (and unique) truck. Those things wouldn't make me shy away from one, but a lot of people don't understand what it's like living with that kind of vehicle.

Not sure how these will compare to the 1st Gen Squared in terms of value, but here's a brief (and very loose/abreviated) market analysis:

When they first came out those who knew what they were paid premiums for them (not the crazy $100K we are seeing these days, but still a bit over sticker). Some dealers actually had them sit on the lot for awhile though because not a lot of people knew what they were. Once all 300 were on the market, they held their value pretty well the first year or two. By 2019/2020 they had started to dip a bit (particularly if they had over 10K miles, which wasn't many of them). You could find them for $200K+/- with under 5K miles. Those with 20K miles or more were in the $175K range. Then Covid hit, and like the rest of the market they went back up. Low mileage examples were fetching at or just under MSRP. Now they are coming back down, and there are a lot more of them with miles on them (15K miles or better). Many of them are sitting on dealer lots for 6+ months because they were bought when prices were going back up, and now the dealer is left holding an asset they can't sell for what they paid for it. Plus, the first ones on the market are now approaching 6 years old, and since they are all so tall, few of them have been garage kept. The wear and tear of the sun is starting to show up, as is the normal mileage wear and tear.

This current gen will potentially hold value a bit better since they are the redesigned (and more road friendly) body style/drivetrain, but they will still be a niche vehicle. Are there 300+ people in the US that want one? I'd say yes. The calculation that goes through most people's head though is that this ends up being a 1/2 million dollar truck after taxes and ADM. Seems a bit absurd to be twice the price of regular G63. And people will start to consider other alternatives that are more practical at that price point.

Did you or anyone decide if you are going to keep it or go through with the buy back process? I am waiting for them to call me about the buyback but might want to wait and see what the fix ends up being.

I am also waiting for call for buyback to see what Sedgwick will offer?
Has anyone negotiated and gotten a really good buy back deal, and if so what can be obtained?

I’m waiting for my order, and see what happens. The ADM bugs me, so I went to cars, com. Saw some dealers listed at MSRP, so I contacted them. They wanted $500k. False advertisement if you ask me

They’re quoting 500k on a car they can’t actually sell you?

I've sent in my info and bill of sale to the Mercedes rep I've been speaking with, 2 weeks ago, so far still no response on a buy-back.
He had zero info on a repair other than they are working on it but could be a while still.

You will end up hearing from a 3rd party company that handles the buyback process from most manufacturers and they will take from there !!
Good Luck, It's a shame on MB!!

Got my answer yesterday, directly from MBUSA. They will either pay my first 5 months of payments (and possibly more going forward until its fixed) or they will fully buyback the truck, including my ADM and PPF(which was 10k). Now I have a few days to decide which way to go. As for the fix, they don't know much other than its there #1 priority but its looking more like end of summer to end of this year. Something I don't think I can wait for.

I was wondering does that mean they will give you about $35,000?

I was in the exact same situation. They should be buying mine back in the 1-3 weeks. My buddy signed an agreement for 43k check and MBUSA still hasn't paid him of 10% of his sales price. Its been months according to him.

They would cut a check directly to my dealer, once they deposit, they would cut me one directly. Its 5 months x my payment(inc interest). He told me about 3x to cut the check.

Yes ill probably go the route of buy back as I don't want to just keep waiting and dealing with this issue for the next 6 months (or more). If I did want the monthly payments was told about 3 weeks, my dealer knows about this and I don't think I'd have any issue collecting that asap.

Anyone know if you can get the carbon fiber steering wheel, I’ve yet to see it in any pictures. Also is there a hitch option?

I've been contacting dealers to inquire on buying one, they seem to all be saying that there the recall should be done by the end of June, with repair. Hopefully that ends up being the truth, as I have heard from multiple dealers

Dealers that have inventory sitting around are charging 75-150k over MSRP. 75K is the lowest I have seen, which is disappointing.

Has anyone come across any dealers willing to go lower than 75k recently?

Most dealers I have talked to start at $100K on the phone, but quickly drop to $50K if you are a legit buyer. Optimistic dealers are quoting end of June for the repair. It's anyone's guess as to when they will actually get it done. Some dealers are willing to take deposits on them now, but many of them are waiting until the fix is available and they plan to "auction" them off to the list of buyers they have on hand. If I were chasing one right now I'd go in with a firm offer and be willing to cut a deposit check for the ADM amount. I certainly wouldn't pay $75-$100K over though...
