New Range Rover vs new G63 AMG

I'm currently an owner of Range Rover Autobiography, 4 business seats, full option (bought before SV was even available). I'm very satisfied owner, and have almost no complaints at all.
The car isn't any fun to drive, that's true. Boring. But very very comfortable. And it is perfect for long distance trips (for me, that means 300 - 800 km trips)

It's time to replace it, and my first option was new (again) Range Rover SV, standard wheelbase, P615 Petrol Mild Hybrid.
However, my wife said I should go with G wagen AMG.

Therefore, I decided to wait for a G wagen "facelift", and today: here it is. Nothing spectacular (and thats good).

Now I have (somehow) 2 similar vehicles to compare:
- similar size
- similar engine power
- both quite new as a model
- similar price

Yes, it's a MB forum, so I could expect an final answer will be G wagen.
Anyway, did any of you have similar thoughts, similar vehicles in consideration?

2023 G63
I love my G63 but it’s not very fun to me on the highway and to me is a terrible long range vehicle, and it has nothing to do with gas mileage. It’s loud and there’s a perpetual fear of the windshield breaking.

Around town though I wouldn’t have it any other way.

New Range Rover looks great though. I’d love to have one of each in my garage. Maybe in a few years. . .

Im obviously biased but I could have gotten the RR at any point but I chose to wait for the G. For me its more special in almost every regard: hand built chassis not shared with any other brand or car, gets its own factory, hand assembled engine, looks infinitely cooler than any RR, retains its value better than any RR ever could and probably more reliable given the reputation JLR has.

Im sure the RR is more comfortable to live with daily, but in the words of Randy Jackson: "that's guna be a naw from me dawg".

I actually own Both 2023 Range Rover sv and a 2022 g63 I like them both but if I had to choose I’m going Range Rover I literally floats when driving compared to the g63 which you sorta feel the weight if that makes sense also the OS in range isn’t perfect far better than the g63 and prob still on par with the 2025 g63 infotainment

I currently own a 2024 full size Range Rover and I had a 2023 G63 previously. These are 2 very different vehicles. The range is great for long trips while the G63 has an amazing cool factor but doesn’t ride nearly as well, as a matter a fact my 2022 G550 was more of a pleasure to drive on a regular basis.

Had a RR now a G63 - prefer the G.

My take:

The RR (non-SV) is indeed quite comfortable and rock-solid at 115mph (yes). The G is comfortable but not quite as easy to drive at sustained higher speeds (90+). I assume that's due to the lousy aerodynamics.

I don't however, find the G suspension as rough as other do. I think its quite comfortable to drive. My complaint I believe is mostly do to it being shaped like a brick. The RR has more cargo space if that's important to you.

However, I still very much prefer the G for the following reasons:

The engine is just beautiful. I have never owned an SV but I find it hard to believe it can compete with the AMG M177.

I LOVE the styling. I don't care what others think I just know that when I walk up to it in a parking lot it stands out from everything else out there. I like that.

I HATE the RR infotainment system. Slow response time, crashing, startup time, etc. I know its a small issue but one that annoyed me to no end.

I have my G PPF'd and take it into the desert. I'm not doing anything too crazy but its indeed very comfortable on unpaved terrain (as is the RR).

They're both great cars and you'll enjoy either but for me, the G is more special and unique.

I think it really depends on what you are using it for. I have the new RR Autobiography. For a long trip with 4 adults it is a no brainer. So comfortable to drive and people in back seats won’t hate you.

If I was using it for short hops / driving around town the G Wagon has the cool factor.

I just think they are very different vehicles.

It is interesting that all these manufactures spend so much money on their off-roading capabilities. Does anyone really take these $200,000 vehicles down rocky trails?

They're Jeeps for rich people, so yes. The guys driving their Bently Bentayga's off road definitely have more money than brains though, IMHO.

Anywhosies, I was gawking at a two-door Defender 90 with the 5.0L V8 just a few days ago while getting my Jaguar F-Pace SVR serviced. Have to admit I was tempted...

Looks a little angry! LOL

I have a G550, and while bummed about a couple of annoying but non critcal safety recalls, when I had the last one done I was waiting at a traffic light to turn into the MB dealership and a flatbed pulls up next to me carrying a RR. So it could be worse.

Have you considered a BMW X5M Competition?

LOL, yeah, well, that's because James Bond was jumping over bad guys in it.

Most of the problems with the 5.0L V8 were fixed back in 2014 and it's actually a very reliable motor. The 48V mild hybrid I6 you should void like the plague though. And quite frankly, the sound of the supercharged V8 is just plain glorious. The whiny little turbos in the BMW 4.4L just don't make my ears as happy.

I should be less snarky -- RRs have improved in recent years (except for their styling). I'm avoiding all things mild-hybrid. Hang an Akropovic on the X5 and wear ear protection (lol).

Yeah, I guess one fire breathing supercharged 5.0L is enough for me... Personally I'm wanting to compare the Range Rover EV with the EQG, especially off road. My EQE SUV is really quite boring and these AMG rims develop a rash just from being in close proximity to a curb -- I don't even have to actually touch it. Off-road mode is really pretty useless.
