Wireless CarPlay Adapter
#26
I’ve had this for several months. Doesn’t not seamlessly connect at all. I have to go into Settings and allow Bluetooth every time I get into the car. It has only self connected several times. I’m not sure if it’s an Apple problem or the dongle’s.

I had been considering getting one of these because if it worked the convenience factor of not having to plug the phone in every time I get in the car for a short trip would be nice (I'd still want to plug in on long trips to keep the phone charged). Based on the feedback, I think I'll pass. Looking at the poster profiles, it looks like it's equally unreliable on old (<2019) and new (>2018) models. Thanks for providing the feedback, everyone.

For what it's worth, the adapter works seamlessly 75% of the time for me. Usually if I don't connect to any other bluetooth devices besides my Airpods, it reconnects instantly to the module.
also re: MBUX, I tried MBUX in a couple loaner cars and I have to say it's just another gimmick. The functionality of the COMAND system is the same minus the touch input and the voice command, but the "Hey Mercedes" thing isn't any different than using Siri. Also, I use CarPlay 90% of the time and the CarPlay display on MBUX screens is like 3/4 the size of the CarPlay display on COMAND (on the G, it fills up the whole screen, not just the center portion). There's petitions on the GLE forum to call for MBUSA to make CarPlay bigger and fill up the whole screen, but I doubt they'll do that since they want people using MBUX over CarPlay I'm sure.
From an article about why the face lifted C class did not get MBUX: “C-Class program manager, Christian Fruh, told Car Advice the electrical architecture of the car is based on the same one used for the E-Class and S-Class. The silver lining here is that the level of functionality you get with the latest Comand (NTG 5.5) in the C-Class matches the goodies available with the A-Class’ swanky new MBUX (NTG 6.0). Fruh went on to mention that only the user interface is different.”

I have tried its equivalent called Carlinkit (I think Carlinkit is the original maker) but doesn't work on my GLC200 so I bought more the expensive alternative Play2Air from ViseeO which comes with type-c cable for the Mercedes connection. It works really well for my GLC200 and has fast reconnection!!! Although a lot more expensive but feel a lot more premium.
Play2Air is a lot smaller than the Carlinkit/CPlay2Air and more elegant
My beloved GL200

Hi, do you mean the reconnection boot up or the 1st time setup? 1st time setup does take a while to be connected (possibly 1-2 mins because you need to pair with the Bluetooth & WiFi) but after that the reconnection is reasonably fast. As soon as I enter the car, the car screen is automatically switched on as usual and takes about 20-30 seconds for Mercedes to boot up its system (Mercedes logo stay on for about 20-30 seconds) and then from there only about 20 seconds to switch to carplay automatically (wirelessly connected to my iPhone). I have the unit for about 2 weeks and I drive everyday so far have not experienced any disconnection or problem with reconnection when every time I enter the car. So I am quite satisfy with the ViseeO Play2Air unit. I have tried the Carlinkit/CPlay2Air but doesn't work on my GLC200 so not able to make comparison here however, I have seen it works ok in my friend's Volvo XC60.

So few days ago I received play2air adapter, at first I have some problems with first handshake connect to it. But when I update device its connect without problem.
So after 3 days test I can say its amazing device, its work like it has!!! No drop/no disconnect issues, loading is acceptable, like a regulae car play + 5 sec. so with device like this, if you also want have wireless car play - now with this device you can. No trash device loke car2play that I have previously even near.
and also support is great, I have little problems at first connection, but support help me very much
Now I want to understand what quality of music send iphone to this device
and today I its little overheat

I bought play2air from Amazon a couple days ago. Had some connection issue in the beginning (like Amaterasu mentioned above), but manufacturer was responsive and helped in every step of the way. After I updated its firmware, this little device is a keeper. It's quite pricey but wish I had it earlier. It's about time MB should offer wireless carplay for G.

It plays music realtime streaming thru apple music subscription, so yes. But I haven't tried other apps than apple music, like spotify, etc.. The app that I mostly use is google map which I have no problem so far.

I'm a real boring guy who plays recorded media music from the USB/SD slots in the center console, or when I'm feeling adventurous, I dial in SiriusXM Deep Tracks. I've never bothered trying to link my smartphone with the G's media player. Is it not possible to stream music from your smartphone via Bluetooth?

Does the device require your phone to be connected to it by bluetooth AND WiFi in order for it to operate?

If you're ready to deal with updating its firmware, why not give it a try. Make sure to reach out to their support. They will guide you how to do so.
After the update, it works perfectly. Good luck!

Got mine Air2play today and initially worked...now I see it on my iPhone, but when I try to connect the phone tells me to make sure it is turned on and within range.
Email sent for tech support as I can’t find a phone number...

Do not buy Carplay2Air. I bought it for my E-class, it worked about 50% of the time. So I moved it into my Kia and it worked about 99% of the time, but not seamlessly (some static at times, some track skipping) but it died after 2 months.

Actually, I don't mind plugging in each time in my car, till forget to remove the phone last time, we're 200 meters away and found left it in my car.
I've just been doing research on this. There is a lot of information on this here: CarPlay adapter to convert to wireless CarPlay?
Cplay2air, has a hardwired USB connector, Smart box is a new version that is similar in hardware but has a USB-C connector on the box and you plug a (removable) USB-C cable into it. but not sure which is best. Probably the later USB-C version just in case it boots quicker. It works well with my G63 so far. I am happy with my purchase.
Highly recommended!
