Cost to replace brakes on 2016 g63 amg
Good Evening guys. I am trying to get prepared for what it's going to cost and what must be done for our first brake service at dealership. I wanted to know do I have the option of just doing pads without changing out rotors if I change them out early?? Secondly, do sensors and calipers also need to be changed as well. I'm sure dealer would recommend to change out everything but is that necessary. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I have only owned this car nearly 2 years now and have had very little interaction with dealer at 26,000 miles.

I’ve found that these luxury dealers recommend always changing rotors with brake pads which is likely unnecessary. I imagine they take advantage of people’s innate fear of not optimizing the braking system and more importantly their deep wallets.
Sensors are probably fine but may need to be replaced. They are usually just a wire and plug and fairly cheap. Calipers won’t need to be replaced.
I had a dealer tell me pads and rotors and ended up going to a tire shop who told me rotors were straight and fine to go another round with a new set of pads. I bet this is likely similar here. My advice is buy the pads yourself and either take it to an Indy shop or a reputable tire place and see what they say. They will examine and measure the rotors—did the dealer do that or just blanket say brake service is pads and rotors?

Dealers just try to scare the customers, always into forking over more money.
Go elsewhere and have it checked.

A set of MB branded OE front blades at autohausaz.com are currently on sale for $30.69 US. The rear wiper blade has several compatible aftermarket brands and retails for about $12 US (about $43 US total ($55 CDN) not including tax and shipping). I just replaced my front wipers, and it takes longer to unpackage the new blades than it does to remove the old blades and insert the new ones into the wiper arms. Your dealer's wholesale cost for all 3 blades is probably not more than $40 CDN. $113 CDN will pay for several stops at Tim Horton's (lol).

Agree, that has been my rule of thumb. At least 2 pads per rotor on the AMG rotors. In general if you can still see the slots on the rotor and you are not getting any wobbling when braking then the rotor is probably fine. Sometimes I can get 3 pads per rotor if the thickness is still within specs.

Unless there's scoring or runout (shimmy when braking) on the rotors, they can last through 2 or more sets of pads. Solid rotors can be machined to limits set by the manufacturer to remove scoring and runout, but slotted and perforated rotors cannot.

Another forum post about a week ago reported a quote for $6500 to replace pads and rotors - outrageous! Help us out here - what have you been doing to demolish pads and rotors in only 26K miles? I have 7500 miles on my G550, and the pads and rotors still look new, not 1/4 disintegrated. Are you a left footed braker?
Thanks for feedback
