The new G-Class 2022 is imminent!
#26
My experience with MBUX (on two of my vehicles) is that it's just not that great. It's cool, but not really useful at all. It misses about 80% of the verbal requests and the touch screen is "meh" at best.
Like someone else already said in this thread, the cost of implementing MBUX is very marginal for Mercedes given that like the previous E-class, the G has the existing components to support it. Not to mention it can be cited for one of the reasons of the inevitable price hike for the upcoming model year.
The change is so minor, that it wouldn't mess with the character of the G or touch any of its design or driving characteristic.

I'd love to see a factory off road package: 2-3" lift, 34" tires, light cannons, etc.
And why anyone thinks an entire new model is coming is beyond me. The previous 463 had like six revisions before it was replaced lol. If there are any changes being made, they will be small revisions to the front and rear, some minor modifications to the interior, etc.

I have the same question on “guard 360”. I see a small writing of “guard 360” on my front windows.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Under the microscope: GUARD 360
Intelligent interlinking of hardware and digital solutions for protection against crime
Under the name GUARD 360, Mercedes-Benz is introducing a new, comprehensive product and optional equipment category for all model series. It bundles together existing and future products for the protection of the vehicle against vandalism and crime. With GUARD 360 – an intelligent interlinking of hardware and digital solutions – Mercedes-Benz satisfies the worldwide rise in customer demand for security and property protection. In conjunction with Mercedes me, the two packages GUARD 360 Vehicle Protection and GUARD 360Vehicle Protection Plus enable all-round monitoring of the parked vehicle. GUARD 360 comprises an anti-theft alarm system, tow-away protection with visual and audible warning in case of a detected change in position, an alarm siren, interior monitoring (triggered by movement in the interior) and preinstallation for theft and parking collision detection. In the case of the latter, the vehicle sensors register when the parked and locked vehicle is bumped or towed – or when someone attempts to break into the vehicle. If the service is active, the driver immediately receives detailed information via the Mercedes me App. By means of a push notification, he/she finds out how severe the parking damage is and in which area of the vehicle it occurred, for example. As soon as the vehicle is restarted, this information also appears once in the central display.
Vehicles with GUARD 360 package bear a special label. This warns potential thieves that the vehicle is specially protected.

Apparently Guard 360 is just a nomenclature change...as they already have these features. Any idea what "Underride guard now standard". I googled it and found a Mercedes accessory that was a plate beneath the bull bar...but the page was a translation, so I was uncertain.

I believe it’s the skid plate like thing that you see below the bumper and brush guard on the front of the 2021 G63. The G550 doesn’t seem to have that.
The truck still has an actual skid plate under the engine so I assume it’s essentially decorative?

to be clear it never said that there will be NO 2022 G63... just as you mentioned its shut down until further notice. Things could change but for now it appears likely there will be no 2022 G63... but not certain.

No 2022 G63
A combination of politics and circumstances has prompted MB to cancel any 2022 V8 model.
They May never return. MB is also possibly trying to lead the pack in the gentle switch to electric drive - either as an assist or as a primary drive.
I have a 2021 GLE63S with the 48v system - and it performs WELL below expectations. Can’t wait to get rid of it, actually. It’s just a $180k clunky machine that has had all of the “fun” engineered out of it. perfect for a doddering old Grandpa, but not much else.
I am not hopeful that MB is going in the right direction for me. From my perspective, MB has decided to focus on the production of “Grandpa cars”. This zeal towards electrification is probably going to be slow and painful. I think that Tesla is probably way ahead of the pack in that regard. If it just wasn’t for the terrible Tesla build quality!
I hope that I am wrong, because I don’t want to abandon the brand. Might need to switch to Audis for a spell. Their little TTRS is inspired with the inline 5. Just bought one and won’t see it until April 2022!

I think you are mis-characterizing current automobile design trends, attributing their qualities to the wrong generation. My HS ride was a Plymouth Satellite - 340 cu in (5.6L) V8 4 brl carb 275 hp. Most in my crowd drove GTOs - 389 cu in V8 348 hp. I always was the last to arrive. The puny power plants being shoveled at car buyers today are promoted by save-the-planet environmentalist millennials, not by those of us who grew up thinking 9 mpg was the essense of fuel efficiency. When I ride in a Tesla, it'll be in an urn. Until then, the G works for me. (LOL)

Use the tiny touchpads on the steering wheel in combination with the dedicated buttons for NAV etc.

I am certain there are many other new and refined features, but the big draw is the touch screen. I have those other apparatus now and I don't use them to their fullest. I won't use them once the G ends up with MBUX either. 2005 is so droll.
