Calling all 911 and G63 Owners!
Hi everyone - I am a long-time lurker and first-time poster. Following my expression of interest in a G63 after shopping for a GLS for my wife a few months ago, I reserved a spot in line for a G63 with my MB dealership, which I am told will likely result in a vehicle in "late 2022". This was not a big deal to me, firstly because it generally lines up with my purchase timeline, but also because I am hopeful that perhaps my vehicle will end up being a '23 model and potentially include MBUX (noting, of course, that MBUX has been excluded from the 2022 DOG). I don't have any prior experience with MBUX, but if I'm going to pay this much for a car, I'd prefer it to have all of the latest bells and whistles.
Lately, rather than buying the G63, I have considered purchasing the recently announced Grand Cherokee L (3-row) and a Porsche 911 (992) (likely either the upcoming GTS or GT3 "touring" model). I have a longstanding relationship with Porsche and have been assured that I can obtain an allocation for the GT3. So the question to the folks who have owned both Porsches and G-Wagons is: would you rather have the G63 as a "jack of all trades", or a 911 in addition to an admittedly less sexy daily driver (in my case, the new Jeep)?
I am a father of 3 and I occasionally do school drop-off and pickup. I don't drive a ton of miles annually, but I am passionate about cars. I was thinking that I may prefer the Jeep for "dad duty" and daily driving purposes, and then the Porsche for the weekend, time with my wife, etc... If I could only pick one car out of the 3 I am considering, I would unquestionably pick the G. The question in this case, however, is whether the combo of a nice Jeep and 911 is superior to the G Wagon.
I would appreciate thoughts from the group on this one, particularly those who have owned (or currently own) both the G and a 911.

I'm sure you will get folks on both sides of the fence, but for me it's easy... I would go with the G63 hands down. Granted I'm not a fan of any Porsche vehicle. Personally, I think their quality sucks so take that for what you will
Also, as a father of 3 myself I can say that having a G Wagon is amazing with kids. Either way, enjoy!

Get an extended warranty if you purchase the Jeep. The Porsche is fun to drive, but not practical. Hope this helps.

I have a 21 G 63 and a 2018 GT3 6 M. If I had to choose just one, I would choose the G 63. My Porsche is a garage queen, has 2 seats, no cargo room and is impractical for every day use.

I think I am leaning towards the G. If I go with the two car option, I think it be splitting minimal drive time between two cars, neither of which is exactly what I want. The Porsche would be a blast to drive without adequate room for the kids, and the Jeep would be pure utility without any enthusiast appeal. I appreciate the feedback.

3 kids come with 3 dozen kid friends, none of whom have been taught the car rules you:'ve drilled into your own kids, and none of whom know (or care about) the difference between a GLS and a Suburu. Buy a 12 year old Honda Odyssey or some facsimile that you can drive through the car wash with the sun roof open and all the windows down, 'cause that 's what it takes to flush out adolescent soccer team residue. Save "your car" for you.

I have both, custom ordered in same config, espresso over silver. Love them both. If you’re going to do track days and backroads runs get a 911 and the Jeep. If you’re not going to use 911 the way it should be and make it a “garage queen”, no use of getting one, just get g63.

Not that I have a 911 and G63 but I have had the garage queen 991.2 TTS and a Jeep a couple of years ago. I am now down to DD a E63S which I do prefer to the 2 car system. I didn't find that I drove the 911 enough or the way it should be driven as mentioned above. (Sitting in traffic or driving 45 miles per hour behind a line of cars). I would vote for the G63 which in a few years may replace our GLE580.

GT3 touring allocations were released this week for December production. I'm first on the list at my store and getting PTS. If you haven't received a call, you're likely not getting one.
To answer your question, get both. The GT3 would not be a great daily, especially with the way firm suspension of the 992.

The answer is simple - Buy all 3!!
I have a G63, a 997.1 C2S 911 (with a 992 GT3 ordered delivered in Sept) and a Jeep.
These are all different tools for different tasks.
The current 911 is used as it should. Spirited drives, DE events, etc, but also becomes the school bus for my two boys given it has very small backseats.
The GT3 on order will become the exclusive track tool and no longer be used to for shuttling children as it has only 2 seats and they are fixed carbon buckets.
Jeep gets used for all the dirty jobs, runs to Home Depot, MTB’ing, etc.
G63 for everything else, and it’s definitely the Swiss Army knife. It does it all, and with style, performance and comfort.
If you can only have 2, I’d go GT3 & G63
If you can only have 1, G63.

Good decision to have IMO...I currently own a 2020 G63, 2020 BMW X7, 2018 Ford Raptor, 2013 911 S(PDK), 2021 Jeep Rubicon 392—what all my vehicles have in common (other than the x7) is they all hold incredibly good resale values—-all have appreciated over the past 3 years....the cost of ownership (for me) is part of enjoying the vehicles I own....a Jeep Grand Cherokee (as with most jeep products ) will depreciate at an eye watering pace...and their reliability and dependability is pretty suspect——-
Get the G wagon and the 911—they (based on the pricing for the past 10 yrs ) both will hold their value extremely well—-spending $80-100K on a jeep that will be worth maybe 33K-35K in 3 years??? My 2020 g63 is worth $175K today —I paid $173K almost 2 years ago.....my 3.5 yr old raptor which was $68K, is now worth $69K——- my 2013 911 which I bought CPO for $78k (had MSRP of $148K) is worth @ $73K——the Porsche GT3 is doing better than what I stated...
Get the g63 and 911—-for cars —-they are blue chip investments !!!
Cheers!!!

I have a 19 E1 and 992 TTS Cab. Both very different experiences but both are great for kids (I have 5 under 11).
For the “Jeep-like” feeling, don’t get a silly Jeep. Get a super silly 4x4 Squared ... most absurdly ludicrous car I own and it’s everyone’s favorite.
And while you’re at it, get your kids into cars. It’s going out of style in this crazy “sharing” and “I don’t need a car because I can call Uber” economy. Some of the best car conversations I’ve ever had are with my 9yo son who is obsessed with the Nissan GT-R.
Lastly, don’t forget to give back where you can ..... the great choice you have in front of you is something most can only dream of!
Godspeed with your choice!

What an awesome collection of cars, and great advice also. Thank you for your thoughts. My son is 8 followed by two girls, 6 and 4. Rest assured that I am doing my best to make a gear head out of my little boy!

I like your analysis, and the depreciation point is well taken. Absent the crazy market at the moment, if I'm going the two-car route, I think at least one of them needs to be a 3-row given my use case. More often, I'm bringing extra kids home unexpectedly after football practice, etc..., and I suspect that trend to continue as my kids get older. Frankly, lately, I'm wondering if the GLS 63 doesn't make more sense in a one-car scenario for me. It's an awesome car, but I just don't have the same emotional connection that I do to the G and 911. For some reason, paying $145K for a GLS seems more difficult to stomach than paying $175K for a G63, and that's before considering that the G will hold its value much better than the GLS.
When you have a free minute, please share your thoughts on your Rubicon 392. I'm not sure how you figure out which set of keys to grab in the morning! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and perspective!

Great advice on this thread. I know a lot of people with extra cars that have "cashed out" and sold them in this market with plans to buy similar ones later when things cool off.
I think I'm always going to have a G in my garage, it's really a fun experience to drive.

Consider the 2021 or 2022 Bmw X7 M50i....I really enjoy driving it and it has three rows...priced from 105K to 125K they seem to be a good value (good value being relative at luxury car price levels)—-it is a much better daily driver than the g63...the g63 , while improved over the years...is still not the vehicle to put a lot of miles on...gas mileage, wear and tear—-10k brake jobs come to mind...lol......The bmw surprised me...the drive and b&O sound system, the luxury interior and ride which is damn near rolls Royce quiet and refined ....take a test drive and see what you think?
I did a post about the 392 on this forum ....I try to dig it up....but I absolutely love it....horrible gas mileage and small gas tank are the only issue I’ve experienced as a negative....I drive it way more than the g63...open sky roof and v8 burble with a ZF 8 speed for $78K—-I have given up on My defender 110 build plans—this rig does it for me.....plus the kiddos really love the jeep...my wife usually takes it to run quick errands...it fits 2 adults, 2 young boys, a 10 month old baby boy, and a golden retriever in pretty good comfort...its a blast...and I don’t find myself speeding in it....like my older Ducati’s ...open clutch , big twin , termis...it is just a relaxing , refreshingly mechanical experience ....just my .02 cents...so hopefully this helps you out —-Cheers
