I have an appointment with my local dealer to bring in my 21 G63 for the safety recall on Monday morning. Should be done the same day. I'll update you guys once the repair is complete.

EJKaufman: Sounds good let us know how it goes. I'm always hesitant when recalls call for dealers to take apart door panels etc.

I disconnected the battery sensor a year ago to permanently disable it -- it's no longer an annoyance and I haven't noticed any change in fuel consumption. IMO, it's one of the dumbest features ever dreamed up by car designers (an EV that catches fire while charging in your garage is probably dumber).
Hey I'm using the AMG drive button on the steering wheel. Next time I'll try the button by the ignition.

I can attest to this being an issue. Earlier this year my rear door would not stay closed properly. It was replaced with the same part, but now will be replaced with the updated version.

I called the owner of the dealership, the service manager called me back to tell me the parts are on back order from Germany. They have 5 sets on back order and the parts are VIN specific. Don’t know if he’s blowing smoke or not. They also have a shortage of loaner vehicles, but are going to take care of me. They originally told me they would have the parts the first part of this week, but couldn’t get me in until August 10th.
He also wants me to drive to the dealership the next time I see the warning, active brake assist inoperable without shutting off the vehicle. They want to hook it up to their computer to see what’s going on.

Same here - contacted the dealer this morning about an appointment I scheduled last week for Aug 9th, and was told parts are on back order from Germany. I told him I would leave the bungee cords hooked between the door handles until he calls back next year. Leave it to MBUSA to announce a recall, send out letters telling owners to schedule service, and then not have parts available with no ETA. MB GmbH probably has yet to award the contract for manufacture of the replacement parts.
I think when your dealer said "VIN specific" he meant that it applies to VINs that are G-Class, not that each vehicle requires a parts kit especially manufactured for it and it only. Some of the past recalls are VIN specific in that they apply to vehicles manufactured between certain dates.

Dealer just fixed mine for this recall. I guess they had the parts available. It was fixed same day.

Can you tell us approximately how long the repair takes? Is your dealer large and in a major metro area?

My dealership originally told me that it takes 4 hours. The parts are now VIN specific because the large dealerships wiped out all the stock. Just spoke with the parts manager at my dealership.
Parts are on back order from Germany.Update, supposedly the parts have been shipped or are being shipped out today to my dealership from Germany, per Mercedes CAC.

The recall originally identified ALL 2019 - 2021 G550's and G63's. Sounds as if you're being told now that MB has decided only certain G's, identifiable by their VIN, are affected. If this is the case, MB should be mailing out some "never mind" letters. According to documents filed with the NHTSA, there were originally 8,324 G550's and 9,476 G63's included in the recall. Let's hope if not all vehicles are affected, the ones that are can be VIN identified. Last year's differential actuator recall affected some unknown and unidentifiable number of G's, and the dealers I contacted told me that I had to make 2 trips. One trip to inspect my G to see if it had defective actuators and a second trip to have them replaced if necessary. These dealers told me MB refused to release parts without an inspection first "because the replacement parts are expensive" No kidding -- the truck cost $150K, and MB is pinching Euro cents.

What the parts manager told me, since some of the large dealerships ordered all the stock, now the parts have to be ordered by VIN, so the large dealerships can’t hog all the parts.

So there's big bucks to be made for dealers doing recalls - would have never guessed! (Lol)

I don’t think they like doing recalls.

I know this may not be the brightest move with a safety recall, but I'm inclined to just wait to have this addressed when I need service A to be done, likely around December based on time (and not miles).

Since the parts are on backorder don't really have another choice, but I rarely if ever drive with passengers or any cargo in the back seat.

Same here, but don’t want to have problems closing my doors or having them come open while driving.

I had my recall taken care of this week. I dropped off my car around 10:30am on Monday morning and I picked up my car at 12pm on Tuesday. They replaced the rear door locks that were described in the safety recall letter to all of us. Dealer gave me a loaner car while my truck was in the shop. It was an easy process and now I don't have to worry about the recall anymore. I had my truck serviced at Mercedes Benz of Coral Gables which is a terrific dealership.

Hmm, just for fun called one of the local dealerships and was told parts were on backorder. They could order then call me when it's in and I have 20 days to schedule before parts returned.

I asked if I could get a loaner and they said "not sure" since I didn't buy there. Like sorry I would have if you had given me an allocation within 4 months like the other dealer lol.

If no loaner, talk about a deal breaker especially when it's a recall. I'll call the other stores and see.

Update, I have my G back. The recall takes over 3 hours and said it’s a real pita to do. Mine was their first. I had them look into active brake assist inoperable and they cleared out everything and said to let them know if it reappears. If so, don’t shut it off and come to the dealership.

Drove around during errands today and got the error message trio:
-Active braking system
-Active lane assist
-Road sign detection

Something along those lines. I'm used to seeing the active braking error at start-up, but this was the first time seeing it when driving for awhile and seeing the other messages. I was in S+ and the auto start/stop remained off. Car drove fine so just a very minor annoyance.

Also confirmed with local dealer I'll get a loaner so asked them to order the parts. On backorder like everywhere else.

My service manager thought the active brake assist inoperable was something to do with a software update that had glitches in it. I noticed in the Mercedes Me app, they left it running for an hour. They cleared everything out and told me to drive over there and not shut it off if the warning reappears. I also lost my display and backup camera until an over the air software update corrected the problem.
I think in sport plus, it disables the annoying auto start stop?

What parts are involved with the recall? My doors work fine and I have had plenty of bad experiences with my local dealer that I would not feel comfortable with them taking the rear door panels off.
