Need Advice: 170K MSRP, Dealer wants 65K: ADM

Hey Guys,

long time ‘lurker’ here, learnt a lot from this forum, posting for the first time

Currently on my 2nd G63: MY2016 with
26K Miles, (previously had a 2013)

Wanting to Upgrade:
So please help me with your advice:

•Current Options:

(1) 190K Msrp: : 50K Adm = 240K
I’m sure most of you already know about these ‘special editions’ •White / Bengal Red

(2) 170K Msrp: 65K Adm = 235K
•White / Beige

(3) MY’22 Lamborghini Urus = Msrp 249K
•confirmed delivery in Dec “21 (5-6 months)
•Yellow / with Yellow + Black interior

(4) 2017 Ferrari 488 GTB = 235K
•17K Miles •Red / Beige w/ Fi exhaust
•CPO car

I rarely drive: 50-200 miles / ea Month. Sometimes 2-4 weeks go by, and I don’t start the car… Single guy / Miami (Brickell) resident

I also own a “20 Tesla Model 3,
just wanted to see what these
‘rechargeable cars’ are all about

Many of us, who are unable to get our hands on a new G63 are facing a serious dilemma over many choices / options we are being offered in the 220-250K range.

Not Willing to pay these Ridiculous ADM’s:
so here is where I stand right now and really need your advice:

•Heart is set on W464
•Common sense says to go for ‘22 Urus
•2017 Red Ferrari 488 is standing in between these 2 and saying FK both, and get me )

Gents / Ladies (if any):
Please take some time and give me your advice

~ Thanks all,
Shawn

current: 2016 G63

Personally, if I'm going to drop 250k+ on a car it better be a Lambo or a Ferrari.

Would never pay ADM on a Mercedes (or any car for that matter). Even the Porsche 911 GT3 ADM game is total crap.

My wife was trying to decide between the G and the Urus and went with the G at MSRP. At ADM prices it would have been a no brainer to get the Urus.

BTW sick looking G you got there. Is that a true Brabus or did you source the body kit and have it done yourself?

I'd keep the 2016 a while longer -- a quarter mil is a lot to drop on a ride you use infrequently.
1. Cheap/free money (as in 2% finance rates) is causing excessive demand and ridiculous ADMs.
2. Parts shortages are causing production delays.
3. There are still design bugs being worked out (squealing brakes, software anomalies, too many NHTSA recalls, etc.)
When the party ends, there will be bargains in the repo store.

Listen, I love my 2021 G63 and paid a a little over MSRP (10k) but ain't no way I'd pay 65k over.

At this price it would be Ferrari or Lamborghini.

this is interesting… I have a 2020G63 (and supercars)… wife needs a new truck so we test drove the Urus… had a lot of pluses and minuses. Its an audi to be honest at its core. Drove fast, great gurgles etc but its based on an audi. I wasnt super impressed. Pound for pound, at 240k, i would get with a G63 any day… demand great, volumes lower and its more of an “event” to drive… Dont get lost in the stigma of a brand. In two years of driving, the Lambo will lose 50% of its value. The G wont event with an ADM maybe you lose 30k. and let’s remember the G is still a handmade car created outside of the MB factory

all in all, bought wife the Bentley truck for 25k less than the Urus. so comfortable and still fast as heck

keep your truck two more years and get the 63 then. 488 a different type of car buts its been an outgoing model and eventually will look dated

So Im proud owner of Ferrari 16M and 2019 G63 (equipped with Fbspeed exhaust)
But to spend an extra 65K for the amount you drive on the G.....go with the FCar. You wont be sorry

G63s and a few others
I would typically agree with “go with Ferrari or Lambo” but I wouldn’t include the Urus in the Ferrari/Lambo selection. I would never give up my G63 for a Urus. It’s a rebadged Audi RSQ8 and does not feel special.

Agree love my G63 but I wouldn’t pay any ADM just on principle.

If you pay $240k get a $240k car.

Def no go on the Audi-Ghini. Another thread shows more production delays for the G and '22 model is delayed, whether any of that is true who knows.

Just curious -- insurance companies never flinch over writing a collision policy for $65K over MSRP? "Replacement value" coverage takes care of it?

Definitely not. They will only cover the replacement cost which is market value and is based on MSRP. You can kiss any ADM you pay good bye if you need to file a replacement claim.

I should add that you can get gap insurance to cover anything above what the car is worth if totaled...

Not necessarily. You can show were the current market value is.

2024 G63
Depends on the insurance I guess but I imagine it would be an easy argument to show market value. I know a friend of a friend whose 2019 G550 was totaled and they got a check above MSRP from the insurance company.

However I doubt one can demand all the ADM be included but I certainly hope they would give more than just MSRP--my guess is it would be an easy argument to get $20-40k over for a G63 but $65k? Doubtful.

A high end insurance company will sell you an agreed value policy to cover the ADM. Go with Chubb or equivalent. Also, the ADM they want for the special edition white G63 is high. Aim for 30, max.

Benteyga is also just a rebaged rsq8 (along with the Cayenne).
To each his own, but Urus is definitely more fun to drive than the Benteyga.

in 2019 and 2020 MB sold more G wagons than Lambo sold Urus FWIW
Losing 50% of it's value in 2 years is also grossly inaccurate.

But I agree that you should test drive it, the car either speaks to you or it doesn't.

$20K is IMO an excessive ADM, but it's a free market auction, and no doubt someone will write the check for MSRP + $65K. As long as there are more of these "someones" than there are G63s available, the madness will continue.

The bentley also costs 225k all in vs Urus at 268k. and it will depreciate a massive amount especially if you are driving 12k per year which is what could be reality if its a daily which our trucks are. My buddy traded his in and lost alot on it. IMHO, at 268k which was our build, its grossly overvalued… 225k for a Bentley is fair and the G is underpriced. I liked the Urus though for 60k more, I would rather have the Bentley as a second truck next to my G63 as dailies. Also, outside of the gurgles and speed, i happen to think the exterior of the car is too muted IMHO

$30k ADM won't get you the Matte White G 63.

You might be right. I picked mine up this week for almost that amount but my experience may not be representative of the broader market.

This place is a joke.
This is crazy money to drive something that looks like it's from 2002. Maybe I'm just drinking the wrong flavor kool-aid, or I simply don't have so much money that I'm bored with it.

The fact that the G rarely changes is a bonus for residual value - similar for Wranglers and 911s. Look at Range Rovers and Escalades - once the car is redesigned the old models look terribly outdated and their values drop like a rock.

True. You should definitely not buy a G in today’s market unless it’s a toy that brings you joy without pinching you financially. In some ways it’s a risk-less trade given how easily you can get rid of it in the market right now without much, if any, depreciation. I love it so far and it puts a smile on my face each time I drive it. Even more so, my 5 year old is overjoyed every time we both go for a drive in it together. That is priceless.
