I searched a bit to see what is the best 22" snow tire out there right now for the G63.. found some old posts, but anyone try anything new?

 

I have Perelli winter tires and had no problems. I was forced to get them because my dealership is storing them. If I were you, I would get the Vredstein’s from Tire Rack.

Continental has a size very close to the OEM summer tire. I checked with Mercedes, and they said this size would work well, no problems.

If you plan to flip tire sets seasonally, IMO you should consider a second set of wheels with an open spoke design that will shed snow. Changing tires twice a year on one wheel set exposes the wheels to damage by careless mechanics, and scoring when weights are peeled off each time the exchange is made. You will find more choices in 20" size tires. I've run Bridgestone Blizzaks on my Wrangler for 20 years and push a 7 ft. snowplow with ease.

I'm also looking at getting a set of the 20" Trail Package wheels. Can I ask what you paid for them, and if you got them from a dealer or somewhere else?

 

lol was just thinking about trail package as well. The stock 22 is too much work. Let us know where you can get them cheaper than dealer.

{edit} part number is A46340137007X71. Pretty sure it's a square setup. Roughly 1.1k per wheel x4 from dealer. Might just do it and get some aftermarket AT or snow tires

 

There are decent looking aftermarket wheels available for much less $$. If your wheels are going to spend the winter crudded up with sand, salt and snow, and maybe get dinged if you slide into a curb or drop into a pot hole, why spend $4400? (I'm assuming you plan to flip wheel/tire sets seasonally.)

 

Pirelli Scorpion Zero is the only tires that I can see for All season tires from Tirerack.com

 

They also have Vredstein tires in that size.
They’re both winter tires, not all season. I have the Perelli winter tires on mine.

 

The Pirelli Scorpion Zero in the OEM 22" size is summer only - there are some websites that say they are all-season but they are not. The confusion is that the same tire in smaller sizes can be all-season so some websites don't differentiate.

I don't think there are any winter tires in the OEM 22" size.

 

I’m running 285/40/22 Perelli winter tires. Tire rack last winter said the factory Perelli tires are all season, I told them, they’re not. I don’t know if they changed the listing. The 285/40/22 is approved by Mercedes.

 

The OE Pirelli tires are most likely "all season" class tires, but this does not mean they're qualified for winter driving. "All season" is the tire industry's term for general purpose. If you want a year-round tire, go with an "all terrain" tire that has the "3 peak snowflake" rating.

 

i think the 21 inch are all season, not the 22 inch. I don’t know, but the 22 inch Perelli tires aren’t all season tires, they’re summer tires. They do ride better than the winter tires, but I wouldn’t want to try them in the snow and ice. I had my winter tires installed 12/1.

 

I went onto Pirelli website for the 325/55R22 I see (2) options. Scorpion Winter (Winter and Touring) and Scorpion ATR (All Terrain and All Season) both with load index 116H.

for 285/40R22 i see allot more for this tire size on Pirelli website for All Season but the load index is 110Y

 

The Pirelli Scorpio All Terrain Plus is 3PSF rated and provides snow traction, but Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain is not (compare their bar graph ratings). But the "Plus" version isn't availale in 22". If you need snow traction in a 22", you will probably need a "snow" tire, and flip tire sets seasonally.

 

Michelin X-Ice North 4. Game, set, match.

Mind you, depends on whether you can run studded tires or not where you are. Keep in mind, these are 285/45r22.There are lots of winter tire choices in the 285/45r22 range. Wouldn't actually recommend the Continentals mentioned above. If studs are not up your alley, would consider a Nokian product (R3, or Hakka 10's if a different studded tire is back on the menu) or Michelin X-Ice Snow SUV.
