G63 Keyed During Service

Welp picked up car last weekend after brakes changed on car due to squeaking and got car back with plenty of scratches on wheel and chipped paint on AMG calipers. Went to drive it today and noticed something even worse - a huge key mark on the front brush guard.

any idea how much it would cost to repair/repaint? Have dash cam footage of dealer porter coming quite close to the car and shielding his face, but not hopeful that dealer will do anything. Other dash cam footage shows a different porter meeting someone in a parking lot and wanting to joy ride it with a friend before they decided not to "because there's a camera."

Time for a sit down meeting with the dealership's GM, the porter and the local sherriff, IMO.
Keyers normally don hoodies to conceal their faces - this guy's a "duh".

No more MB:(
So the dealer messed up your 200K ride and you want to know how much it will cost YOU to fix it? Are you crazy? Have a meeting with the dealership, and as streborx mentioned offer to bring in the sheriff and a lawyer as well.

Who is the dealership?

Ugh sorry this happened. When I brought my vehicle in for a recall I took a picture of every inch of it in my driveway before leaving just in case. Keep us posted on what the dealer says. I'd ask them to replace the brush guard not "fix" it.

Also glad they didn't mess with the magno paint at least.

I make sure my vehicles are washed and cleaned when I have to take them in, and I make it a point to bring that to their attention and I politely ask them to please return it in the same condition, and I inspect it before leaving and if anything is not right I bring it to their attention and ensure it is documented for resolution before departing.

spend 5 mins taking pics of the car of every panel and wheel + dash + door trim. Make sure you take the pics with the dealer in the background and/or save the dashcam footage of you going there as well

My experience is that 50% of the time you get some form of damage from a dealer after a service. They churn through so many cars daily they just don't care beyond the lounge area.

Actually I'm a bit surprised that a Mercedes dealership would not immediately accept responsibility for something that is so insignificant to their operation. The costs to repair vs the bad potential PR are a non-starter. Apparently all MB dealership are not the same across the country. My assumption would be that my dealer in NJ would without hesitancy handle this.

Customer service had declined drastically. A G63 customer is treated just like an A-class customer, thanks to mass production. There was a time dinging the dealer on the survey had some effect, those days are long gone.

Where are you located and where is this dealer so we can stay away. This is ridiculous. You need to bring this up with the GM ASAP.

Had similar incident happen to my e63 while back. Car was scratched and wheel had damage. After few complaints and getting MBUSA involved had brand new rim installed.
Need to be in touch with GM and service manager.

I would say after this is resolved, it's time to find a new dealer

have them pay for diminished value , repaint and loss of use (car rental) and if they give u inch of trouble take them to court for punitive damages. that was intentional they will settle.

Didn't settle it out; I'm just busy! Dealer agreed to have body shop repaint scratched portion of brush guard, but no word on wheels...

Out of curiosity, how bad was the damage on the wheel? On one wheel near the lug nut, they stripped away the paint on the wheel (in the hole surrounding the lug nut) completely to the metal (probably from the drill they used).

Hopefully repaint will be fine. Don't know if dealer would fork over $2500 for a new one...but fingers crossed repaint looks good. For wheels, I'm not sure what to do because those probably won't be replaced either for cosmetic damage, but we'll see.

To me it looks like the wheel fell over on it's face when it was removed for your brake job.

Yes! Exactly + all the minor chips from the gun they used to remove the lug nuts. Thinking I might keep as is since not too noticeable in the sun - may powder coat later. Doubt repainting is going to look great.

Unfortunately, experienced mechanics don't do the low hanging fruit like changing the oil, brakes and other easy stuff. They hire teenagers to do that for $5 hr and a lot of them don't GAF and just want to finish so they can go home and chase tail. When I drop my expensive cars off for service, I have the service guy come out to the car with his clip board and we do a walk around together. He marks any damage he finds on a car diagram in the referenced location and I watch over his shoulder. That protects both parties, so they are willing to do the work and put in some effort.

Exactly why I do these services myself (even though these teenage juggies do get paid at least the $7.25 federal minimum wage).

Not true. Depends which dealer you go to.
At least in Canada, survey scores make a big difference. I only see ONE mechanic, with whom I’ve built a friendship over many years.
I bring the car in clean. I make sure they do not wash it. I put seat protectors on the seats and steering wheel.
