Proximity Warning too Sensitive
Anyone else have this issue? Have had my 2019 G550 since new. Never had this issue until a couple of weeks ago.
When you come to a stop, if there’s anything on either side, like a car in the lane beside, at a normal distance, the car’s perimeter lights up in red and it beeps for a second. The cameras also turn on, then shut off when you drive away.
Sensors and cameras are clean. They are all working, it just seems too sensitive.

To be Helpful - there is a "Warn Early" setting that I think might have been inadvertently activated.
See Manual Pg#177 - kindof "hidden" under Warning Tones Setting - for Warn Early - make sure you Click "Deactivate"
Report back that this takes care of your "Issue"

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I did try Warn Early - it’s not the cause. It behaves the same way regardless of how it’s set.

If the Distance/Range doesn't change - then it's a Dealer Diagnostic - where they 1st try a System recalibration - and if that doesn't take care of it - then MB authorizes Warranty "system reprogramming" where they download and install "system programming"... note a Good Dealer can get it taken care of - a "iffy Dealer" will kindof shuffle/blak - since Technicians "son't like" this type of issue since Tech make more on Major Mechanical than the shop-time it takes to do this right.
It will get handled - keep the beat !

The dealer wants to do the rear door lock recall first, and won’t do any other warranty work until that’s done.
That is annoying because I don’t have time to leave the car, and I know exactly what the rear door issue is and don’t need it done. I’ve posted about it here.

I’m quite sure this started after I took it in for a brake flush (used to do it myself but now too old/busy!). They scanned the computer for codes, as I had a check engine light come on over the summer.
Do you think they somehow erased the proximity warning calibration when they did that?
Mind you - I only use one tech, who is amazing. In the top 1% for sure… but no one is perfect.

This happens to me when stopped at a light in a turn lane, when there are multiple turning lanes.
So, if I am turning and another vehicle is next to me, turning along side of me, the alert goes off.
I live in a small town that only has about 2 intersections with multi-lane turning lanes, so it isn’t much of an issue.
If I lived in a bigger city, I think it would drive me a little nuts..

Hmm… have you always had it?
In my case, I’ve had the car for 2 years and ~25,000 km without having this issue. It only started recently. I’m going to try to get it addressed - hopefully the service tech won’t tell me “it’s normal”. I’m meeting with their lead AMG tech… we’ll see.

Surge - please remember my comment earlier: "note a Good Dealer can get it taken care of - a "iffy Dealer" will kindof shuffle/balk - since Technicians "don't like" this type of issue since Tech make more on Major Mechanical than the shop-time it takes to do this right".
1. If you are taking it in for Door-Lock "Recall" (actually its a "Campaign") INSIST that the Dealer Diagnose that Issue
If the Dealer Service Adviser "shufflebalks" - please politely tell them: "if you don't add this Safety Issue to this Dealer Service Ticket - then I will call Mercedes Customer Care (800) 367-6372 and have MB Customer Service open their Ticket which will go to your Dealer Management"
2. Service-Advisers and Service-Techs at EVERY dealer have a Love-Hate relationship - for Peak Season Tech's want "Big Warranty Tickets" or "Quick Warranty Tickets" - understandable.
Your Distance Alert issue is NOT either one of those for ANY Tech - this type of issue they Diagnose - email to MB Engineering - MB Engineering emails back says "try this next" - and
this goes back-n-forth 3-4-5 times.
ONLY a Top Tech will be able to get to the bottom of the issue - a monkey wrench tech can't do this kindof job - especially the back-n-forth the MB on the tech side.
YES - on some other Comments the super-short-range Lidar sensors in this system can be "set off" by a comparable/adjacent system/another car - that's why the alert system in "non-Early" is set where it is...

Senior tech today updated various software modules but it didn’t fix it.
Now thinking it’s a loose PARKTRONIC sensor connection. That’s just my guess based on another tech’s comments online. it’s not loose enough to not work, but to occasionally get the system to alert a fault. From the owner’s manual, if the entire car lights up in red like this, the PARKTRONIC is defective; but in this case it’s still working.
This issue is related to the LiDAR/sonar sensors in the bumpers, not the cameras. And it is related to objects on the sides of the car, not front/rear.

They’ve recalibrated and updated everything 3 times. Automatic brake assist inoperable message. I also have sensors going on at stop lights and double turn lanes intermittently.

Ask them to check for loose wire connections to each sensor.
Although Automatic Brake Assist is using the radar sensor behind the 3 pointed star on the grill as far as I know, not the parking sensors. So the two issues seem to be separate- unless it’s an issue with the computer model that controls both? Ask them to check for ground wires not properly secured.

In my case it may be the film on my windshield. Does anyone know with certainty if the front cameras are involved in the PARKTRONIC proximity warning (shown in my first post)? I assumed that it’s only the bumper sonar sensors which are used, but perhaps not.

This happens to me a lot. Most common at stop lights and Starbucks drive through. Must be something to do with other sensors in the area that set off the Gwagon sensors. I have asked the tech at Mercedes several times about it and they just shrug their shoulders and say, "its other competing radar or something that sets them off."
If anyone has any luck let me know. Very annoying.

On mine it displayed an error code, so that gives the tech something to focus on.
I’ve read that it could be water in the connectors for the parking system - not on the G specifically, but it may apply as well. This may not trigger a code until it gets worse.
