Are g550s wait shorter than g63

Went and tried putting a deposit down for a new G order, the salesperson told me they won't take any more orders until the production is resumed, normal?

Then we proceeded to chat about the ordering process, he told me that the 550s are just as hard to get as the 63 because they as a dealer only receive "G" allocation and customers choose between if they want the AMG model or not. This is conflicting from what I have been hearing, can anyone please chime in, thanks!

G550
Back in 2021 my dealer kept separate wait lists for G550 and G63, not sure how the allocations went but Im guessing they prioritized the G63 orders just based on the volume of G's they were moving and how long it took them to deliver ...
They quoted me 6-9 months and 12-18 months respectively on Jan 2021.

I think the best you can hope for right now is to get put on a call list so you'll be notified when orders will be accepted.

Per German blog:
https://mbpassion.de/2022/01/bestell...zum-17-januar/

ORDER FREEZE FOR THE G-CLASS FROM MERCEDES-BENZ ON JANUARY 17

As things currently stand, there will be a retroactive order freeze for the Mercedes-Benz G-Class as of January 17, 2022. Accordingly, only existing orders for the off-road vehicle will be confirmed up to and including January 16th.

Temporary order freeze as of January 17, 2022

According to several pieces of feedback we have from prospective buyers of the G-Class, Mercedes-Benz has not been accepting any more orders for the G-Class since January 17, 2022. Several order requests were rejected by several retailers with the same reference to a retrospective order freeze as of January 17, 2022.

We don't have exact reasons yet, but they could be partly due to the currently long delivery times up to the 4th quarter of 2024 and the preparation for the model update. However, there can be no question of the model being discontinued, but only of a purely temporary measure. We have not yet received an official confirmation from Mercedes-Benz.

My understanding as it was explained to me by my sales manager is that he is sort of correct. When allocations are given the dealership can always attempt to "push" the model to a higher trim but the factory will not always accept. This always has to take place before production begins. When looking in Netstar, G550 and G63 allocations are allocated and configured entirely separately.

I see that MB Flemington, NJ has two G550's at $161K on their website:

I got my GLB last year from them after contacting several dealers in NE. You can contact the sales specialist:

I would be shocked if they are actually selling for that. I just checked and that is MSRP for both of them.

There really isn't any point to taking an order if you don't have any idea when it will be filled.
G 550's are allocated separately from G 63's. Due to the popularity of the G 63, there are fewer G 550 allocations typically.
