Akrapovic exhaust and CEL

Akrapovic exhaust and CEL
I purchased a brand new akrapovic exhaust for my 22 G63. Car has 1738 miles and the exhaust was installed about 1000 miles ago. The car threw a CEL and took it to the dealer. The code wouldn’t pull on a generic scanner but instead said “manufacturer control”. Took it to the dealer and they’re saying the valves aren’t operating correctly and thus the CEL. I purchased the model s-me/ti/5. There is an updated part no s-me/ti/5/1. I did a ton of research to find what the difference was. I have an email from turn14 distribution saying the updated part no had an update to the valves and that only 1% of the previous older part no(s-me/ti/5) was affected. When I emailed turn 14 they said the exhausts that they had on hand did not have faulty valves even though they only had the older part no’s in stock. I’m working with the vendor and turn14 to get this resolved not sure what the resolution will be but a little frustrated paying 8k for an exhaust that they knew had issues with the valves. On a side note the ecu must be super sensitive as this exhaust is 100% post cat and didn’t realize there could be feedback from the valves telling the ecu whatever is wrong with the valves. I can say that during the install the stock valve solenoids need to be reused on the akra exhaust and the slot on the exhaust where solenoid needs to line up was difficult to fit. I’m thinking when akra updated the valves they must have realigned the slot for better valve function and solenoid fitment. Hoping this gets resolved quickly as it’s annoying to pull a brand new exhaust and then reinstall the stock and then reinstall an updated exhaust. Anyone else had issues with the akra on their g’s?

I think you are probably correct that the factory valves didn't line up properly, so they are probably getting stuck partially open or closed, thus throwing your CEL. It's possible the Akra valves are creating/causing a voltage issue that the ECU is picking up as opposed to an actual emmissions issue. These trucks are super sensitive to voltage changes, so any load out of parameters can trip the CEL. In their efforts to make diagnosis easier for technicians they have made the computers so smart/sensitive that they pick up every little change that is made to the truck.

fortunately the dealer was kind enough to do the diagnostic work at no charge even though the fault was caused by an aftermarket part. i can't be the only one that added an akra exhaust, i'm wondering if theres anyone else that's had the same problem.

I purchased the older part no. Because turn 14 said that their stock of the older part no was not affected and they did not have any of the new part no in stock and would not available until mid October

Just got an update from my vendor, akrapovic approved the claim and are sending me a new exhaust WITH the control kit according to akrapovic "this is mandatory for the newly modified valve system"

I ordered mine too from a turn 14 vendor and it arrived with a completely incorrect exhaust system for a different car. Instructions and sound kit was for the g550. Not sure how they messed my order up so badly lol. In any case, I really hope the sound kit is not 100% required because installing it on this truck is a huge pain in the *** - gotta remove seats, trim , etc etc . Muffler shop says it will take a full day basically if we want to also do the sound kit. Please update us with how your install goes !

We installed an Akrapovic exhaust and a Renntech tune on a 2021 G63 AMG for a customer over a year ago. Always worked, no issues, no problems.
