Leaking water roof

Leaking water roof
Hello,
After a brutally windy rainstorm my 2020 G550 had a wet ceiling and seatbelt in the rear drivers side. The headliner was wet above the windows and in the trunk water was running down the headliner down past the windows. My doors appeared completely closed as I always make sure light goes off when I lock. I took it in and they didn’t find anything after 2 days that could be causing a leak. Anyone else experience this? Wondering if I did just leave the door slightly open and the wind blew rain upwards but it seems odd.

Partially open window? The windows can be open a crack and it's not noticeable unless you pull up the power window switches. Because of the location of the switches, it's easy to push down on them slightly while resting your arm on the door sill.

This is super weird, but I picked up my G63 from service today after it was there for about a week and the headliner next to the rear left passenger door was also soaked after a rain/wind storm. MB app showed all windows/doors as closed, so a bit strange. So weird that it's in the same place as yours. Not to mention the G was parked mostly in the shop and not outdoors. Perhaps the window wasn't rolled up all the way.

I usually pull up on the switches before I get out to make sure they're all up. I also do not really roll down the windows often since where I live there are already bugs out for Spring. It's of course possible but just unlikely. Thank you for responding!

I have had this as well with my vehicle (2021 G 63). I believe that this is a design flaw in the new G-Class where it allows water through the sunroof itself and into the tray, which will then leak into the truck and can ultimately corrode parts of your wiring harness, which you won't realize until after your warranty is up. Have you guys talked to CAC or an attorney or the dealer yet?

The sunroof opening has water drain channels which need to be cleared of debris periodically — but I have never done mine in 4.5 years.

Totally agree that it probably isn't all of them or Mercedes-Benz would have done a recall. I thought it was only me, but in 10 minutes of research I've found this thread and others. Considering the low production of W463s, this isn't insignificant. There might be more to this than I thought.

We should first identify where the water is entering from. Is it when the sunroof is opened, water that has pooled somewhere comes in, or is it while the sunroof is closed, water is entering?

For me, completely closed. I have probably opened the sunroof like 3 times in 2 years. My guess is it is the same for the other people who have posted, but that is just an assumption - hopefully they reply in the thread.

Just stabbing in the dark here, but I wonder if it could be somewhere along where the roof connects to the body and not actually have anything to do with the sunroof. This could be aggravated if the car is parked on an uneven surface creating flex and potentially widening any gaps.
Watch how it's built and you will see it's all separate pieces
