2023 G63 Drone Noise

Hey Everyone!

I am a first time poster, just took delivery of my 2023 Platinum Magno g63. I have been driving it for two weeks and have been having some issues and was wondering if anybody else is having any similar problems. The big main one is when I start it up in comfort mode, there is a deep drone noise that is super deep and loud that did not happen the first couple of times I started it up. It is almost unbearably loud and when I switch it to sports mode, the drone noise goes away completely and the car sounds normal and more quiet. This only happens when it's a cold start, every other time when the engine is still warm I do not get that deep noise. I tried taking a video to show it but no video ever picks up the sound well enough to actually get a proper representation.

Second was my left low beam light was just staying on and not turning off not matter what I did. I am going to attach a picture below but I took it into Mercedes and they just had to recode something but was still odd. I know Mercedes has the option where you can leave one side of the lights on even when the car is off but that was not selected for the picture below.

I appreciate any insight and help I can get, first time G owner so not really sure what to expect. Thanks in advance!

can you try starting it outside and see if it behaves the same?; I've experienced something similar (droning) when turning on the G in a short garage.

Thanks for the reply! It is parked in a parking garage but even when I start it in my driveway I still get the same result so not sure if that is the problem.

The exhaust issue sounds like one or more of the actuators getting stuck in the wrong position on start. Sounds like selecting Sport mode (or letting the car warm up) forces it into the correct orientation. That should be fairly easy for the dealer to diagnose. I don't know about the G63 since it has side exit exhausts but other cars with the 4.0L V8 TT have actuators after the cats and also at the mufflers, and they are open/closed automatically depending on RPM/load and Comfort/Sport mode. If one of them were not in the correct orientation, you'd probably get some pretty weird sound like what you're describing.

That actually sounds pretty spot on, I am taking it in to the dealership on Thursday and will point out that idea to them. I will post with an update after they try to figure out what's going on.

Engine

I have the same issue in the mornings, cold start the engine revs up to 1.5 and a hoofing noise starts then about two min later it goes away! I’ve had total of 3 G-classes , 2014-2016-2021/22 and they all did that!

Yeah I realized it was the parking garage that was amplifying it as member RedPill pointed out. Do not really have the problem as much when it is completely outside
