Is this behavior normal? The left side of the screen is useless with the "android auto" logo and maps only shows up on part of the screen?

 

That's Android Auto and not CarPlay and yes it's normal. Apple CarPlay is full screen, though. It has to do with the fact that historically, Android Auto was very restrictive to what resolutions it supported. These ultrawide displays that MB uses were not really handled well by Android Auto, but also MB's implementation is restrictive. The redesigned Android Auto UI that has been rolling out to phones does technically support 21:9 displays, but MB didn't implement it such that it works. Apple however has supported ultrawide screens in CarPlay for a long time.

 

is apple car play wireless or do i need to plug into right sided usb port? have 2022 G63

 

It's wired in this generation. Wireless was only added to later versions of MBUX such as the new S and C classes.
