‘22 G550 steering wheel swap w/ G63 - Help

Newbie here - thanks for having me.

Picked up a new to me 2022 G550 in Arabian Grey. OEM steering wheel is boring and want to swap for flat bottom/AMG style

has anyone done this?
Any 3rd party sellers that have plug and play?
black buttons an option?

Vehicle and steering wheels pics attached

Congrats on your new ride! Steering wheels can be swapped and sometimes you can find them for sell on here from other owners. Search the threads for “steering wheels” and you will find a few posts that discuss what is required to swap. Here is one example…

thanks so much. I saw a few but didn’t see one that was my specific switch. Was looking on eBay and here but want to make sure I’m buying one that is compatible

Yeah I think the biggest thing you have to watch out for is making sure the internals match and if you have a heated steering wheel currently and want to swap for an AMG one, which does not come with the heated option, then the internal wiring may not align and would have to be replaced as well.

youll need to get a wheel with the same button layout as what you have now, then you will swap over your internals.
you will also need a new airbag

I live in FL, so open to ditching the heating. The car does have lane assist.

Does anyone have a seller they can point me to who can help make sense of this and provide a solution. I don’t mind spending the money, but don’t want it to get here and not sync.

I ordered my G550 with the AMG style steering wheel, and its button layout is identical to yours. The only difference is my AMG wheel has a flat bottom. Changing out steering wheels just to have a flat bottom seems like a lot of effort for very little difference. The G63 wheel has different buttons I think and might be a problem to interface.

yea ideally I want a custom carbon wheel with some red alcantara - looking for a trusted seller and someone who has actually replaced their wheel

can you send a pic of your wheel?

I'll send you a pic tomorrow. Meanwhile, another forum member "Bob Z." (who is somewhere nearby you in FL) did a custom steering wheel install on his G550. You might try contacting him through the forum's PM facility. I think he made a couple forum posts with pics a couple years ago that you should be able to find with the search facility.

Picture of my G550 AMG style wheel. Be sure to check the older G (W463) forum as I think some of Bob Z.'s posts may have been made there prior to the creation of the W463A forum.

I did the switch to the G63 wheel re-wrapped with different leather and airbag. Done by these guys (can do CF with no heat as well) https://www.instagram.com/grigul_design/?hl=en

Its cleaner to have a steering wheel with no switches, but I guess its annoying too if you get used to changing modes quickly rather than using the center console, which is debatable.
