New to forum, picking up my new 2025 G550 on Monday. I searched the forum but can not find a thread on creating a mirror tap for a radar detector. Does anyone have instruction on installing a mirror tap to a switched circuit?
My guess is the best place to do it is under the plastic shroud between the rear view and windshield. Watch the install video for the fitcamX on the G and it’ll give you an idea of where may be a good place to tap.
Heck if you are messing there anyway might as well get the dash cam installed too. A lot of us have it and it’s really nice.
From what I can tell the shroud looks the same as the 2024 so I’m hoping it’ll still work for 2025.
Others have shown none of the fuses in the front have switched circuits so the only option there is the fuse box under the passenger rear seat.
I added the dashcam from the Mercedes Me App Store for $200. It automatically starts loop recording at start up using the built in cameras. You need a USB C drive connected to one of the outlets to save the recordings. Works perfect. Camera is 1080P. No messing with wires.

Did you ever figure out how to do this? I'm hoping taking delivery in a month, but wanted to get ahead of the game and look up how to hard wire the radar detector. In prior cars, I've wired it from the driver-side fuse boxes.

There was a great write-up years ago where John looked at all fuses and the only one that was not live all the time was under the right passenger seat. To wire it up to the dash is really a pain to be honest having done it a few cars.
To update my post above, using his picture below that's under the shroud, I have since tried to mirror tap into the white fuse in the windshield on the right of the screen, and those are live all the time.
I could not get the mirror tap into the fuse on the left and didn't want to mess anything up so I didn't force it.
I did it in my 2021 and 2022 with both dash cam and detector which was a huge pain. It may be worth doing if you keep a car awhile but every year it got to be too much.
For my 2023 on I’ve used the FitcamX dash cam which is a million times easier and safer. I don’t run a radar detector anymore since I can’t find an easy tap and I only drive the G locally and keep it at max 7-8 over.
My car is at the shop now for mirror tap, tint, ceramic and PPF. Installer called me and said that he couldn’t tap the mirror and had to run to the fuse box.
Glad to know I wasn't being deficient in my mirror tapping haha. German engineers couldn't throw us a bone and put a switched circuit somewhere in there.

It’s in the previous dash cam thread, there is only one fuse box to choose from the front two rows, and it’s the one under the right rear passenger seat.
Any other fuse is live all the time in the front row.
