Wheel and tire advice / help

Hi all,

first time post here and recent new owner of a 2020 G550. I just ordered a new set of 22’ oem g63 rims for my vehicle and will be installing them with new tires once they arrive. I know several people have fitted their G550 with larger wheels and would like to hear about ride quality and what tires and size people have liked best.

tire size: can either of these options work on a G550 model? Will either one rub on a full turn? Do you feel one option is better than the other?

295/40/22
285/45/22

tire brand: I would like to know what tire members here think offers the best ride quality? I have the stock 20’ inch rims on my vehicle now and the ride quality is great, so I’m looking to maintain as much comfort as possible.

thanks in advance for everyone’s thoughts / responses

Here are the rims I’m going with and a picture of the truck

Wheels are oem from the g63 stronger than time model.

My '19 G550 has the same 20" wheels as yours. I'm satisfied with the handling and ride quality, and especially with the vast selection of tires, availability and prices in 20". I can't see the tires or wheels while I'm driving, so I don't give any thought to appearance as a priority. An extra half inch of tire width brings nothing to my driving experience.

I wanted something that I didn't have to change tires for winter. So 285/40/22 is the closest to OEM so I can still use the spare as well.

Michelin CrossClimate² 285/40/22 is what I went with on OEM 22" wheels.

295/40/22 doesn't have an all-season tire with winter snowflake.

285/45/22 does fit, but you have to be careful of different tire brands and models as it's a close fit and some can rub.

Thanks for the reply! The cross climates seem like a good choice and I live in the northeast, so having an all season tire is important to me too. Can you comment on the ride quality? How noticeable of a difference was there compared to your original wheel set up?

I had OEM 295/40/22 tires before, and it was 4.6" of sidewall vs 4.5" of sidewall. So .1" difference. I can't tell at all visually or difference in ride comfort. Diameter is 31.3" vs 31.0". The width is 11.6" vs 11.2".

If you don't need a snow tire, I'd get the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 in 295/40/22 (OEM size).

If you care about looks, 285/40/22 Falken Wildpeaks or any other all terrain tire looks awesome. I am more focused on best traction in all seasons.

Thanks for the reply! I don’t really need a snow tire, so the pilot sport sounds good.

How’s the road noise on this tire? I do quite a bit of highway driving and was leaning more towards a touring tire. Thanks!

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 is the only all-season tire on Tirerack for 295/40/22 - so it's really your only option unless you can find another all-season tire (rest are summer tires).

It's not an aggressive thread pattern and should be fine on highway, but I have not personally used them on the G63.

Perelli makes an all season 22 inch tire because I have them on my 24G 63. I would rather go with the Michelin if I had a choice. My 21 G 63 came with Perelli summer tires with 22 inch wheels

Many Porsche owners are using these tires and all of the comments I read on Rennlist about them are all positive.

I have a brand new set of 295/40/22 Pirelli (Summer rated, not M&S rated), still with stickers on them if you're interested. Will sell them cheap if you want them.

Appreciate the offer, but I need all season tires where I live. Thanks for all the input from everyone.

I have Perelli winter tires sitting at the dealership. My 21 had summer tires. My 24 has all season tires. I didn’t use my winter tires last winter.
