I am sorry your sales guy won't give you more peace of mind and at least tell you something! I am so curious to see which one of us with G wagons on the water takes delivery and confirms what we have been told. I think it will put us all at ease.

My friend works for a German company that manufactures x-ray and packaging machines for food processing.

Today his CEO stated any machine already on a vessel with a port date is not subject to tariffs.

New embarkations are subject to tariffs.

Wondering if this applies to cars too! But I found this interesting.

Ship name

Anyone else on the Pontus Highway? Expected to be in Baltimore on 4/18. Also curious what everyone else configured. I went with Brilliant Blue Magno. Felt like going with one of the more unusual colors. Also went with the Performance Package. I have heard good things about the new suspension.

I spoke with our global freight company today and the US has officially stated that all goods on the water already will not be subject to reciprocal tariffs… unclear about autos!

Well, if ChatGPT is not hallucinating, we are all in the clear if the vehicles were exported from their country of origin on April 2 or earlier. There’s a concept called “grandfathering in-transit goods” that are in place to avoid penalizing transactions that occurred under a previous tariff expectation. So basically, vehicles are only subject to the tariff if their export date is after 4/2.

Now just need to see the dealerships and MBUSA officially confirm this…

Until you ask Grok… according to Grok grandfathering will not apply to autos…

Yup… ChatGPT was hallucinating… I used the Deep Research function of ChatGPT and asked the same question and it is now saying vehicles are not subject to grandfathering. Soooo up to MBUSA to do things on a good will basis… can’t live with AI can’t live without it.

Official guidance was sent out this morning from MBUSA to the dealerships - there will be no price increases on vehicles that land in the month of April. Apparently price increases will start on May 1. Unclear if that means vehicle is under contract with dealer before May 1 or if it just needs to clear customs by May 1 - trying to get clarity on that.

MB should honor the agreed upon price for all orders placed before 4/2. I would imagine people who ordered in late 2024 getting cars delivered in early May would walk....especially since April folks get a free pass. Doesn't seem like a sound policy to me.

Agreed that’s what they should do. At some point it can’t be honored - some people put deposits down to get an allocation 1-2 years out. But for those that had all allocations prior to 4/2 should for sure have price honored.

No company can stomach a 25% or more loss. Expect immediate passing on of these tariffs to the consumer by foreign corporations especially in order to create huge public outrage and pressure to negotiate out of them. It will be very very painful for everyone and the markets are just one indicator.

I hope and pray they go with how Ineos is doing it. No price increases for orders prior to 4/2. Ineos is small potatoes compared to MB though. If it's too much of an increase, I won't be able to take delivery of my G63 slated for mid May build... Sad.

Thank you for that information. I assume mine will arrive before May 1, but you never know. I do think that for some people who have delivery in early May there may be exceptions and Mercedes-Benz will probably pay the tariff if it's within a few days, but I know as we march toward summer they will take a hard corporate stance. There is going to be a grey zone for people in early to mid-May I would imagine. Hopefully! I have the promise in writing so I am not too worried, but still, I will believe it when it arrives at my dealership and it's the agreed upon price in the PO. The way my dealership explained it to me, which was directly from Mercedes-Benz USA, the vehicle had to be build before April 2 and they would pay regardless of when it lands, but perhaps this is updated official corporate guidance. We shall see - the adventure continues.

Sounds like MBUSA is officially absorbing all tariffs on 2025 model year vehicles.

Thank you for this INCREDIBLE news! I follow him on YouTube and have even e-mail him questions and he has been super nice. That is amazing, wow, I think Mercedes Benz just set the bar really high for other auto makers. It looks like we are, indeed, safe to pay what is in our PO.

Good news indeed. Here is another post that covers Mercedes and other brands. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIKG49BygZj/?igsh=MW93cW90aXdmcWc3ZA==

Now to see what all of this does with ADM. My original PO is written with a “not to exceed 20k” for ADM. I have other dealers who knew I was in the market and I get fairly regular reach outs with offers during the past few months. All claiming the trucks were ordered by others who didn’t convert at the end. A handful were MSRP, one at 20 over, most at 30 and a few 50ish.
