Valentine 1 Radar Mount Solution

I see all these 3D printed and huge obnoxious mounts / under mirror mounts for the Valentine Radar online since our glass is too angled for the kit it comes with.

No thanks I prefer the classic style so I came up with a simple solution to mount the Valentine One on our glass since its so upright.

Just buy some small L shaped brackets and screws. Bend the brackets to the right angle with a few tests and some plyers and your all sorted. I shaved down the suction cups stem to get it into the smaller hole, so buy a few extra from V1 as if you mess with them too much it breaks the suction seal in the center, better to press them in gently than twisting them in.

It's a cool solution and I run a radar detector on most of my cars especially sports cars....don't see much point in my G, it doesn't invite high speed driving.

I wonder if using command strips might be easier? I know those suctions often fail during high heat and dry climates like where I live. Just thinking out loud 😀

Just Crazy Glue it to the window.

I'm kidding😂

There is a US company that makes really nice mounts, just not sure how you hard wire it. I'm not a fan of fiddling with factory wiring. I learned my lesson with my 1979 CJ5 Renegade 😬

I wasn't happy about mounting my Valentine One to the windshield, so I decided to set it on the dashboard (see attached pictures). A small piece of velcro was all that was necessary to hold the Valentine One securely in place. I ran the power cable down the side of the dash to the Valentine Savvy that plugs into the OBD port. Works great, it doesn't block my vision at all and I can easily hit the mute button when necessary.

Do you get the MB Connect error with Savvy? I tried using a brand new Savvy before I did the hardwire and it always gave the error at startup.

Hi. The Savvy worked fine (no errors) in my 2020 G 63. I moved the same Valentine One setup from my 2020 to my 2024 G 63, and it also works fine (no errors). I bought my Savvy about 8 years ago. You should contact Valentine One, and ask them if they know why you are getting an error message? Hopefully they have a quick solution.

Interesting. I tried an older one and then the new one because online said no errors. No concerns now since I ended up doing the hardwire route to the back fuse box but Savvy would have been sooo easy.

Where did you mount your Valentine One? The suction cup window mount doesn't work right on the G wagon's windshield. I ended up securing mine to the top of the dashboard with velcro tape. I like it there more than on the windshield.

I bought a blend mount with an extra link. It fits great, tight up against the mirror. I can definitely tell it gets worse reception due to the glass but where it is at and the reception it gets is fine for around town. If I do a road trip I will pop it up on the visor temporarily.

A few things, The G wagons have a metallic coating that will lower the effectivness of the radar. There is a spot on the right side passenger area in the upper left hand corner where, if you take phone light, you can see a gridded pad in the glass. This area is free of the metalic coating and will allow parking passes, radar detectors etc to work effectivley. I put my parking pass on the sunroof glass lol because theres not enough room for both.

The hardwire install isnt that hard, just time consuming and there is a great writeup about it on here. You just buy a plug fuse hardwire kit for the V1 and it plugs right in under the rear passenger seat into the 12v slot. The writeup (easy to find) has a full walkthrough. I prefer that over Savvy but then again the fuse tap way is the only way to get your radar up to the metallic free area.

I live in a hot climate and have 0 issues with using the cups, and the little L brackets I made took less than 30 min.. Hope that helps!

Did you mount that on top of your tweeter lol?

I've been playing around with locations for my Escort 360c, and I agree with you, the dash is where it looks best. I'm just concerned about velcro tape on the leather. I'd hate to damage it with whatever the sticky resin is..

Yes. LOL. I listen to music all the time, and it didn't seem to impact the sound at all If you want to place it on the dash, you could test a small piece of different velcro tapes on a piece of leather that is out of sight someplace. I bet there's some tape that will work without leaving a residue, or the residue can be easily removed with a bit of leather cleaner, etc. To me, the pros of placing the radar detector on the dash (or on top of the tweeter) outweigh the cons
