Purple / Cloudy Rear side windows on 2025 G63?

Just picked up my 2025 G63, I noticed that only on the rear side windows there is a film that makes seeing thru them very cloudy at certain light angles and almost even purplish. Is this normal? The rear trunk glass doesnt appear to have it.

I have not experienced this on mine. Many miles during day/night with various lighting scenarios city/country.

Some questions: Do you have the truck tinted? Is it a US or Euro spec truck? Do you experience this all the time or only say, in your garage? Has all the factory shipping protection been removed from the truck? Have you applied any protection liquids to the windows like RainX?

Cheers,

When I got my 2021, shortly after delivery, I had the front windows tinted and clear tint placed on the rear windows. I noticed the cloudiness on the rear side windows and asked the tint installer if the film they used caused the issue, but they said it wasn't the film.

I guess they were right because all my other G's have all have the same cloudiness despite not having any tint placed on the rear windows. I haven't noticed any purplish discoloration but the cloudiness is definitely there.

Very odd. Both my G’s have had crystal clear windows all around with and without tints.

I see your in Toronto, are your rear windows factory tinted? US spec here, mine are factory tinted, I have only had the car a few hours and noticed during sundown how hazy they were, they are also a different shade than the trunk door window. I checked for film or dirt, but its how it comes. Looking at youtube vids, it seems some cars have it, others may not but I cant really tell.. Mine are very noticable hazy, purplish at certail light angles. If this is indeed factory and not a defect, im amazed mercedes would go with such low clarity side tinting, but not the the trunk window.

Yes Toronto and yes factory tint. Canada follows the US auto specifications pretty much to the T, with very little exceptions. Our vehicles will be identical except for the obvious like Temp and Speed Units and some other safety and emissions things probably. With that being said, my truck is nothing like this! Crystal clear and perfect clarity on all the windows. Your glass looks so cloudy, it can’t be right. Maybe something went wrong with the annealing process of the glass, or the factory tint is defective or got messed up by some chemical cleaner or something? Not sure what to say except, my windows are nothing like that at all. I will take some pics and post them here so you can see when I get a chance.

I believe the purple-ish hue is due to infrared protection. Big body range rovers have it too. Theirs is much more noticeable.

Haven’t seen this on W463As until we took delivery out of 25. I’ve definitely seen other premium cars have it on factory tinted windows though (see link above). Our Gs have blue windshields; others have purple there as well.

Could be…but in the pic OP posted the window looks so cloudy, blurry and warping what you see out of it, almost dangerous imo.
On mine I’ve noticed the UV protection in certain light conditions, and it does look blueish and purple. I think it’s kinda cool, but only on the windshield, and it was never a blurry mess to look out of.

You're not alone. I have the same cloudy / purplish coloring on both of my rear passenger side windows (haven't noticed this on side cargo/trunk windows, yet). I usually notice cloudy / purplish hue the most when its sunny/bright out while looking over my shoulder to say change lanes or when backing up.

Just dropped off the G for Exoshield and tint. Really trust my guy and he indicated it is the IR coating between the glass layers. Gotta live with it.

I’m going to vote today in our federal election. I’ll take some pics of my G so you can see it’s not normal at all.

Here’s some pics. I guess the first pic could be considered somewhat cloudy at that angle in blaring sunlight??

I think yours looks worse than mine, IDK though? I’ve never really noticed it and it doesn’t bother me. Your window pic does bother me. Maybe I have no clue what my eyes are seeing or that I have bias? Let me know what you think.

Cheers,

They all seem to have it. You don't see it from the outside but looking back thru the inside in many lighting conditions it will show itself (more with door closed)

I wouldn’t worry—it’s probably the picture.

I’m on my sixth G63 since 2020 and all of the rear side windows have looked exactly the same, so I don’t think anybody’s is “cloudier” than others.

Here’s some looking back through the inside pics and my eyes and the pics see the windows as clear. Personally “it’s normal” or “lots of them have it” on such an expensive truck doesn’t sit right with me.

That’s just my opinion. These trucks are no joke, I wouldn’t settle for the absolute best, they certainly charge for it!

Your right window is a bit far to see but the left window looks "cloudy" like the ones I've had. I'm sure yours are just like mine.

Cloudy / purplish hue is definitely more obvious in your 2nd photo.

Me either, but I am actually terrible with these things. I do see a bit of it, but I am curious to see it in person when my G wagon arrives likely later this week. It cleared Baltimore VPC Monday morning and my sales manager said it should be at the dealership in MA later this week - so I may be taking delivery by Friday. This is my first G wagon, so I am curious to see all these quirks - that likely I will never notice.

Yeah it's noticeable but certainly far from a deal breaker. Just a "huh that's interesting" kinda thing to me--once I realized it wasn't the tint.

Congrats on the incoming G!

I do not have many passengers in the back, but curious to see what I notice or them when I do. Thank you. Once I actually take delivery, I will post photos on a new thread. Seems like quite a journey between the ordering, tariff discussions, and watching the vessel sail across the Atlantic. Haha!
