Considering replacing '25 w/ '26 G550, wondering about residual value of '25
Thinking about replacing my 2025 G550 that I bought off the floor, it's polar white and while I don't hate the color I don't love it and would prefer a different color, probably silver.. I've had it 1 year, paid MSRP, and it has 6500 miles. The same (local) dealer is offering MSRP for a 2026 allocation and wondering what the 2025 value might be as a % of MSRP at this point. I've seen the pre-facelift values taking a hit but I suspect that is due to the significant improvements in the facelift 2025 model so I'm not sure if those dropping vallues are really reflective of the 2025s.
Also I'm in California so you don't have to post telling me I should get $40k off MSRP, it's not happening here.

Trading a one-year-old G550 in this market is brutal. Since the 2026 is identical, your 2025 is now used. Expect the dealer to offer 85-90% of MSRP on trade. They get you on the back end with a low trade value, not a discount on the new one. A private sale might net you a bit more.

My guess was going to be 8 percent off. It won’t be great but it depends how badly you want to spec your own, not to mention we don’t know 2026 MSRP yet.
Id take the hit to upgrade to a G63 but I know you are in California so that’s easier said than done at MSRP.

Your one note of grace is that msrp is surely increasing and perhaps significantly for MY26.

Thanks for the input. I don't want a G63 I actually waited until the 6 was available in the G in NA to buy.

Curious, can I ask why you specifically waited and wanted the 6?
I specifically didn’t want the 6 as I love the sound and feel of the 8 cylinder in my 550. Even though I’d welcome the touch screen in the 2025..

Bottom line is I prefer the more European sensibility of the G550 as opposed to the G63 and I also want it to look more like the G Class you mostly see in Europe where I lived for 2 years-- no oversize wheels/2 tone interior, etc. I want to fly under the radar as much as is possible in a G Class. I daily drove a V8 Supercharged Range Rover and over time found the big V8 engine to be too raucous as a daily driver. The 6 is amazingly smooth and refined and plenty powerful. It had nothing to do with saving money although I am happy for my employees at work to make that assumption.

Unless you're upgrading to a G63 it seems silly to take the loss just to switch colors. G550s aren't as desirable as the the G63's especially with the '25 models that now have inline 6's so if I were to take a hit it better be for something a lot better.
Now you can argue all you want about the merits of the I6 but everything else being equal I'll bet 99% of you that claim to like or even prefer the I6 would immediately jump ship for the next V8 G550 if MB hypothetically brings it back in the future.
