My G smells like feet!
My G smells like feet!
Well, I love my 2022 G550, but it smells like feet inside and is getting progressively worse. The first year or two I didn't notice anything. Then I began to notice when you start the car and the air comes on for a few seconds a bad odor (foot, mold, mildew type smell) would come out of the vents but quickly pass. It was a little annoying but we just ignored it. Over the last year the smell is getting more consistent to the point that it is lightly present when the car is off and you open the door and you get a slight wiff of it. When the air is blowing you smell it more. Before you accuse me of driving with my shoes off etc. I can confirm its not me! No really!!

When did you last change your cabin filters? There are two -- an intake filter in the engine compartment, and a recirculation filter under/behind the glove box. If you're in a humid and/or smoggy climate, you need to replace both annually.
I have the p/n buried somewhere in my service records, but you should be able to find it by spec'ing your vehicle on a parts website like fcpeuro or autohausaz. Changing the recirc filter is a huge PITA. I'm not a dealership service department enthusiast, but the recirc cabin filter is one service that's worth what they charge. The WIS/ASRA service instructions are not especially helpful beyond illustrating the filter's location. The first time I changed mine, it took about 3 hours to get the old one out, install the new one and get everything back together. It's also very difficult to access unless you're exceptionally limber and can squeeze your arms, shoulders and upper torso into the small space comprising the passenger footwell.
I was able to work on this today. I decided to tackle the job myself and use a can of evaporator coil cleaner nextzett Klima Cleaner Pro – 10 fl oz sprayed into the system via the condensation drain under the vehicle. I then replaced the internal cabin filter located behind the glove box (not the one accessed under the hood). It took a little time but just be careful with the clips and it turned out to be a simple job. Went for a couple of test drives and so far so good! No stinky feet. Its not the greatest video, but this shows you what is involved to change in the in-cabin carbon micro filter.
