I took delivery of my G550 in May 2025 and it was my first G Wagon, so I wanted to see how I liked it and spend some time in it and determine if it was the right vehicle to build up versus my 200-series Land Cruiser. I did put all-terrain tires on it and used it on forest and dirt roads, fishing, and hunting. The off-roading trails here in New England are just not my preference, as they are not like what I used to do when I lived out west. So, overall, I love the platform of the G Wagon, but as far as building it up a bit more significant for overlanding/camping inside, my 200-series Land Cruiser is just better all around, so I am focusing my efforts on that build. With that said, I was still planning to likely do a roof rack/ladder (useful for supplies and such), Le Tech spare tire carrier (for a full-sized spare), and lockable cargo drawer system (supplies and firearms). Now as I approach a year of ownership, I still love it, but with how my build will change a bit, and the fit for purpose (dirt roads, hunting, fishing) I want with a G Wagon, I think I'd like to try the G63 AMG while I can still trade in my G550 at a decent price and I really loved driving it - even though it was for a short distance, the performance was really fun. I do really like the inline 6 of the G550, but honestly I really love a V8 and would like to give the AMG a try because it will fit my needs now that I have figured out my builds. That may not make sense, but I wanted to answer that question the best I could.
Thank you for the explanation. I was just being nosey since we got our Gs at around the same time. I love the V8 on mine. I cranked that exhaust open when I'm driving down town. Good luck with your new order!

I live in PA most of my life. I wish I lived out west. East coast off roading is boring. Just trees. I rather see views and rocks.

You are welcome. I do remember we got our G wagons about the same time - waiting for delivery. I actually find the waiting to be kind of fun and the build date comes, journey across the Atlantic Ocean, Baltimore VPC, and delivery. Of course I am excited, but I am never really in a big hurry. My build and purpose of the G wagon has just been a bit of an evolving mindset. I lived in northern CA (SF Bay area) for 10 years and was part of Overland Bound (I am actually member # 0001) and Northern CA Land Rover club, so I really loved the terrain and off-roading out there and a few of the states out west. I spent most weekends exploring and camping and it was great. The terrain and off-roading is just absolutely different than the East Coast - the views and mountains are incredible. Here on the East Coast, the trails are so narrow, mostly forest, and you really need a heavily modified vehicle that you trailer in and can't use on the road. Otherwise, apart from a few dirt roads, it's just nothing like out west and not really my thing. I do enjoy driving on dirt roads and using it for fishing and hunting (and camping). I should be getting my build date this week my sales manager told me yesterday.
