Hi all,

My 2019 G63 has developed a front brake squeak only when braking lightly at very low speeds (around 3–5 mph).

A few things I’ve noticed:

• Only happens in dry weather
• When it’s wet/raining, there is no squeak at all
• Braking performance is completely fine
• No vibration or grinding
• Front pads and discs were replaced around 10k miles ago

Has anyone else had this issue too?

I’m wondering if it’s just pad glazing / dust / anti-squeal grease needed rather than worn brakes.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

 

Have you tried finding a safe open area to get the car up to speed and jumping hard on the brakes a few times? In all of my cars that has always done the trick to scrub the rotors clean and get things quiet.

 

Yes try bedding them in as mentioned.

 

There is absolutely nothing you can do. Seriously. It sucks. There is thread after thread after thread in amg forums, bmw m forums, Audi, you name it. The design of the brakes is the issue. It's common on pretty much any car with the same type of performance brakes. There really isnt a fully permanent solution. BMW recommends 3x 75mph to 0mph runs to re-bed them, which seems to work, but only temporarily.

With my 2019 g63 the oem pads and rotors were the worst, they were also the worst for brake dust, but on that car I eventually switched to the disc Italia pads and rotors which were a fraction of the cost, and much better on squeal and dust. But even those eventually after thousands of miles, they also squeaked a little bit, but not nearly as loud or irritating. Noise reduced to nothing when new, but maybe 80% better with noise when they did eventually squeal, and 80% better on dust also, with out compromising brake feel or performance.

There is also threads in here that talk about the disc Italia options. I know, because ive commented in it, and thats how I found out about them for my 2019. My 2025 G63 seems to be quiet for now with the original oem pads and rotors, but im not holding my breath that it will stay that way forever. My GT63 does it also. I had 2 BMW M5's and both were horrendous for squeal and dust also. BMW even just tosses you a little brochure explaining that the noise is common, and to be expected, and they wont address it with any warranty even if the car is brand new. Ive heard some success with some people with warranty at MB dealers, but your 2019 is certainly out of OEM warranty.

While you say it only happens in dry weather for you, that may indeed be the case for you. But, I certainly noticed it when I lived in Seattle with one car, and I live in Arizona now, and it happens here constantly also. There honestly doesnt seem to be a rhyme or reason, and whats infuriating is some people? They've never had a peep of noise. others have noise on one car, and not another. me? ive had it on every single European performance car i've ever owned. Ive tried different driving styles, stopping procedures, cleaning techniques, and some were effective, some werent, but none were permanent. Seems the only actual decent fix so far has been the disc Italia option. The good news is the noise is not commonly cause for concern, so long as you have no rocks stuck in between the pad and rotor, or low pads making the tabs touch signaling time to change. The noise is just a nuisance 99% of the time.

My 2025 is quiet for now, and time will tell if the noise shows up or not. Maybe I hit the brembo lottery this time and this will be my first quiet AMG car. FWIW id say I noticed the noise the most towards the 2nd 1/2 of their life. when new, that seemed to be the best for being quiet. So knowing these have about 10K miles on them and starting to make noise, I would say thats probably about when they would start to make noise for me 10-15K miles. But also depends if new rotors, or just new pads also.

 

That sucks. I'll try the 75mph to 0 mph thing.
