Hahaha, so much money and quality cars, but such low quality pictures.

I especially like the g wagen with the lion on the hood.

This is an interesting thread. I am a local of Dubai myself, which makes it more interesting. Additionally, I think I know jimmyg lol (judging by G55 and the vantage).

Yes, the ruler of Dubai normally drives a G63 AMG (V12 - old engine, not turbocharged) but most of the cars in the fleet are G55 Kompressors. I have seen one G65 Bi-Turbo owned by someone who parks in my building but I was not aware that this engine was available for the G-Class even as a custom built vehicle from AMG, but I guess if you pay enough you get what you want.

There are quite a few of us on these forums these days. I'm not a "local" in the true sense of the word but I grew up here and consider it home.

You can get both the older (6.3L?), and the newer bi-turbo V12 from the -65's installed at AMG Manufaktur in a G55 -- resulting in a "G63" or a "G65".

Good to hear from you again, Jimmy....

do you think it'd be possible to have the new 63 engine dropped into the G, and then have the G serviced by US dealers?

i wonder if the G would be any quieter with the new 63 engine instead of the 55k, which was a decibel hell during my test drive.

Wouldn't it just be easier to wait until the 2007/2008 model G63 AMG (V8) comes on the market? Just swapping engines doesn't get you all the reprogramming of various systems to optimize performance around the engine's unique characteristics.

BTW, isn't the sound produced by the engine a function of the exhaust system? Or is it the sound of the supercharger (which is pretty quiet in my experience) that's bothering you?

jimmyg...

sure, it'd be easier to wait for a production G63. i just had no idea that MB would produce such a variant because the G was supposed to be discontinued in the US.

i believe the exhaust has much to do with the decibel output and quality, but i also believe it doesn't have everything to with them. when i tested a new G55 several months back, there was so much intrusion a 2000 rpm that conversation with the rep seated beside me was difficult.

I actually have an authorized Bugatti dealership not far from my home (about 25 miles). I haven't gone down recently to view the car (don't want to get talked into buying something I can't afford) but I do have to agree, the design and styling is controversial at best.

Yet again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Many people didn't like the Enzo in person, some said it looked like a bit mouse-like on the front. Personally, I loved it.

However, if I were an avid car collector, I would strongly consider the acquisition of a Bugatti Veyron. But as of right now, I'm having enough difficulty acquiring my first "exotic" car.

Put it this way, a lot of people don't like the Rolls Royce Phantom and would even consider the Maybach as a car in the same class. But I personally find the Rolls Royce Phantom to be quite beautiful in most aspects.

Yes, absolutely. But it is expensive because the conversion work has to be done at AMG Manufaktur in Germany. The expense is not in the least because you are paying Germany prices in USD. And they are going to pair-up a 7-speed tranny with that 63 engine when they drop it in there.

Easily arranged with European Delivery - you can have AMG Manufaktur pick up the car for you at delivery in Germany, do the work, and then either meet you there to pick up the car, or continue it on its way to you here in the States -- but you will have to wait for it to get here to the States, which is frustrating (unless you want to add another 10 Grand to ship it by air ).

If I were you I would just wait for the G63 to come out, unless the money is not an issue.

And I firmly believe that the sound level is primarily a factor of purposeful exhaust engineering to produce that sound level - and I think that the 63 cars are tuned to be even louder, or more 'muscular', from what I have gathered so far.
